Is the breather tube end in the same position on all D3s?

It's just not there on my 55plate D3. Big Cry

Managed to get my hand in to the top of the diff, and found where it attaches the other end, but can't follow the tube far enough to see where it goes.

It certainly doesn't appear where it's shown in the images and files in Kav1187s very useful gallery.

Nasher.

I did mine today, and was in the position shown in the write up. Thumbs Up (56 Plate) When I cut it, I heard a release of air, which probably why my seals are weeping. When I blew into the cut off part nothing moved and was completely blocked. Lets hope this stops the weeping.

Cheers
John

Update.

Found it Thumbs Up
It was trapped under the engine bent across the front of the sump towards the opposite side of the engine bay Shocked, and yes it has the original style breather on the end.

I'm assuming it has been that way since July 2007 when the car was fitted with a new engine, turbo, and radiator under warranty by a LR dealers in Norfolk, which was before I owned it.

I was only doing an oil and filters change today and having seen this thread thought I'd have a look for it.
Glad I did now, as it was so low I know I've had it under water a couple of times.
Looks like next job on the list will be to change the diff oil, which it's probably due anyway.
Oh and change the breather for the new type of course.

I've managed to carefully manipulate it round all the various pipes etc, and into roughly the right place.

Damn, mine isn't where it's supposed to be either Confused . Looks like I'll be fishing around in the morning before I change the oil. Any tips on finding and re-routing appreciated.

So it should be near the coolant bottle.
DOwn the side of the radiator.

The other place you can see it sometimes is in the wheel arch at the front, near the large pipes. Even a joint there

as pete has said the pipe is on the left hand side of the coolent bottle

cut the old diff breather off then fitted a 6mm pushfit coupling , then extended mine to the aux battery tray area , fitted the modified filter as per pic

just used some cable ties, routing round the engine bay

can see the new breather by the master cyl , so it's well out of the way

hope that helps abit

Been meaning to have a look at mine for a while, this thread reminded me.
Just chopped mine off, no plans to go wading that deep!
The valve didn't work so I'm glad I did it!

Mine is definitely not there. Hopefully a previous owner has routed it somewhere clever - I'll check the wheel arch.

Hope it's not missing altogether.

Just checked mine and one placed on order, never had any pressure in the diff when I changed the oil last year but better safe than sorry.

that's why i also bought one, as a preventive measure

also took me a while to find the pipe

tucked down between the expansion bottle and edge of the rad

then thought as an overkill to extend it and tuck it well out of the way

know it's well tucked out of the way

if u look between the expansion bottle and right hand side of the rad it can sometimes be tucked below the hoses

the head of the old axle breather is only slightly larger than the 6mm pipe

I've had the pipe from the auto-box to the rad off to make way for my torch. Nothing in sight Shocked . I've found a schematic of where it attached to the diff so should be able to trace it. Think I should run a book on where it ends up or stick to the grand national...

Thanks Pete K, it looks from the schematic that it does/should indeed head towards the wheel arch then wiggle its way up. Will report back tomorrow.

You need to see the silver inter cooler pipe and then feel round it.
