suspension suddenly rock hard
Hope someone can shed some light on this. The ride on the car has very suddenly gone rock hard. Bracing yourself when you see a pot hole type hard. The car goes up and down just fine, and is even on all 4 corners. Any ideas?
If its rock hard it must be on bump stops. If it still goes up and down than can only assume you have a leak and it will not stay up Cheers Ian

It doesnt look like it is on the bump stops and it lowers and raises when the switch is activated. Its not as harsh as when it is on the bump stops but a hell of a lot rougher than it was a few days ago. The suspension stays elevated when the car is switched off so doesnt look like a leak..nit sure what else it could be.

Your cross-link valve has failed.
Going to be bone-jaring till you get it replaced.
Quote:
Cross Link Valves
The cross-link valve provides a connection between the two air springs on the same axle. When de-energized, the cross-link valve prevents air passing from one air spring to another. When the solenoid is energized, the valve spool moves and allows air to pass from one air spring to the other. This increases wheel articulation and improves ride comfort at low vehicle speeds.

No noises rattles or knocks, or messages except noise from all the rubbish inside going airbourne when I go over a bump.

I'm having the same issue but thought the suspension was at the end of its serviceable life as it had done 180k. Replaced all 4 units last weekend but still feels like I'm going down a cobbled street.
Is there anyway to test the cross-link valves with a IID tool? I have checked the live values but when driving along both front and rear stay on 0%
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi
Did the suspension all of a sudden feel like u was driving on a cobble street or over time
Have u checked to see what the height is at normal suspension height , should be
Front 465mm
Rear 485mm
Measured from the centre of the wheel to the bottom of the wheel arch
Cross over link valves open when u disable the DSC, for off road driving which simulates a live axle where as one strut is pushed up the strut on the other same axle goes down
Have u looked to see what the iid live data is when ur compressor is running , here’s a chart of what they should be
Hope that helps

It seemed quite gradual from memory but I have been living with it for a long time.
I reset the suspension heights a couple of time and they seem fine.
I also have checked the compressor pressure and its within tolerance. A few thing I have noticed is:
1 - The pressure drops gradually down to about 100ish PSI
2 - If I go to off road height once the pressure has dropped it instantly raises to about 220 PSI
3 - With the pressure at 250ish PSI when the compressor relay off, if I go to off-road height then back to normal height the pressure drop to about 60PSI but the compressor doesn’t come on.
I have checked and there is a air leak on one of the VOS valves on the compressor dryer, the top one. My assumption is that the pressure sensor is between the compressor and the suspension and not on the reservoir itself. This assumption is based on fact that the pressure drops off slowly then jumps instantly when I change height.
With that said if the pressure sensor is on the link between the compressor and the suspension I would have expected the compressor would kick in as the pressure dropped to about 100PSI, or will it only kick in then the residual pressure is hit.
With regards to the cross-link valve I monitored the values and did the following:
- Turned off DSC
- Changed to off-road height
- Went through all the special programs
At no point did the cross-link values change from 0%. I would have thought that if the valve was faulty then I would get an error code, or does that only happen if there is a wiring problem and not if the valves have failed or are sticking.

Hi
Thks for the info , the pressure sensor is fitted on the reservoir valve block , it sounds like because you’ve got a leak the compressor has been trying to keep up
Imagine the reason the cross link % readings aren’t changing when DSC is disabled as i assume there has to be certain amount of travel from the suspension , same way a live axle changes
So indeed I think ur first port of call would be to fix that leak on the dryer and check the rest before going any further , otherwise ur just end up burning ur compressor out
The suspension ecu looks for a message from the pressure sensor , so if it doesn’t get it will stop or prevent the compressor coming on
See how u get on after you’ve fixed the leak and any others u may find , can then test that by putting the vehicle into off road height , pull fuse F26 and leave over night , then see if it’s dropped as you’ve got to have an air tight system before moving onto anything else

Did you manage to get to the bottom of this issue, I have very similar issues, wondering if you managed to diagnose and repair?
