Losing all power ...

Driving home from Edinburgh today, on about 9 occasions car lost all power. Foot to the floor = no power. Foot totally off the throttle then re-applied, the car drives perfectly afterwards. At one stage we also got the dreaded HDC Unavailable/Special Programs off warnings etc. After we stopped the car let it go to sleep and restarted, these warnings all went and everything was available. The throttle fault still persisted though. My thoughts are perhaps the Throttle Position Sensor is on the blink? Any suggestions gratefully received Thumbs Up Will phone LRA tomorrow and see what they have to say. Car is a MY13 HSE registered in February this year FWIW.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Simon from LRA has been and gone. Recalibrated the brake switch and it's job done. Apparently if the brake lever is lifted by mistake (by catching your foot under it for example), it causes the "ratchet" on the brake switch to open up a few clicks. This then makes the switch super sensitive and then if you catch it even slightly when applying the throttle, it'll override the gas and kill the power.

Sounds like the brake switch is a thing to watch. Mine had a brake binding issue that was caused by the brake switch. I was told it had slipped on its calibration ratchet and was holding the pedal down slightly.

He told me you only get one go at setting it, it self calibrates when the pedal is first pressed. If it doesn't calibrate properly it causes problems.

Hi Gareth,

Interesting that they say you only get one go at calibrating it. Simon re-calibrated it there and then. Took it out then re-fitted it and it was done. Part of my problem, he felt, was the fitting of the hand controls. This is where he believed the brake pedal had got "lifted" and thereby caused the problem. Hopefully, if this issue does arise then a quick removal and replacement of the brake switch could be a 1st remedy to try?

HTH people Thumbs Up

It seems to me,that if LR can get a fix on this infernal brake switch, the majority of our troubles would be over.
It does seem to account for a disproportionate number of the issues involved with owning a Discovery Rolling Eyes

It's all part of the adventure. If they fixed it they'd find something else to play up and keep us amused and out of trouble. Rolling Eyes
