As above i've done the crossmember thing, even a wishbone on a pug to get it from the inside lane to the hard shoulder ( was on an incline so couldn't be pushed up and on a 3 lane motorway didnt want to faff about anymore.

Also done the big no no of using a towbar a few times to pull vehicles out but very gentley.

Tbh, the cross member was the last resort as i didn't want to tie it anywhere else.

I would imagine that the tow hook threads would be universal across car ranges.. but it would't surprise me to find out they aren't.. Laughing

Rest well old friend, your work is done.

the tow hooks aren't much stronger - I towed my dads Xantia on a dampered fix tow pole and ripped the front tow hook off the cross member !! Rolling with laughter

luckily he was trading it in on that £2000 scrap tread-in thing a while back so we all had a good laugh Laughing

Same happened on my Saab when it was being winched. the things are only tack welded so not strong and can't really take the full weight of the car after a few years Sad

Tow hooks vary from one make to another. Either between Citroen and pugs i know they don't fit and they are the same company!
I'd bet a lot of vag ones fit similar age vehicles in their group but wouldn't guarantee it!

I think the towhook on the Xantia was more of a tie down eye - but there was no formal tow hook - that I remember (although I also don't remember checking for one !!)
