Ukraine 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Manual Zambezi SilverDiscovery 3

We don't need parking bays, dirt mounds will do for us. Laughing

If those mounds were placed close to the entrance it would serve several purposes:

1. Dedicated parking for us high net contributors.

2. A barrier against smash and grab raids by the poor desperate for their fags and Stella.

3. A safety barrier against electric mobility scooters.

4. Exercise for those illegally claiming disability benefit. If they can get over it for their coke and fags then they can work for a living.

Y'know as a former soldier (ex-RSM and retired Officer, 28 years with the colours) I tend to have a pretty thick skin - been there, done that, got the t-shirt etc., but I do get a wee Censored -off about disabled parking slots in this country and the attitude of some of the driver population. I won't dwell on parents & kids slots, that's a bloody laugh. I do, however, tend to get a sad on at the abuse of disabled slots by non-disabled persons and those who, for reasons beyond me, scream into a slot, chuck their blue badge onto the dash then sprint off to wherever with their 'I couldn't give a Censored ' expression on their ugly, lowlife faces. Disabled? Doh!

I also get Censored off at smug, clever Censored who from the safety of their PCs/laptops look for cheap laughs by posting stupid and inane comments such as those here. I do understand why to an extent but not every driver using a blue badge is some kind of lying benefits cheat. When I read such comments and remarks it makes me sad to think of all those young servicemen and women who have given there limbs, lives and sanity, and who continue to do so in the mistaken belief that anyone in this country gives a Censored . Some of those disabled drivers just might be one of the aforementioned so don't paint everyone with the same brush.

If you hope to score cheap laughs why not visit Headley Court or your local hospital department for disabled people and then take the Censored .......or better still, visit me and make your little jokes to my face. Rant ends. Wheres me pills?

Put the pills down and raise a beer instead Thumbs Up

I'm very familiar with Headley Court; I was a competitor in the inaugural Help for Heroes European 4x4 Rally and have helped with comms and marshalling on subsequent rallies. One of the things that comes across when speaking to the guys is their sense of humour Whistle And guess what? That's what has been employed here Neutral

Sorry you don't see the joke here, but please be assured it's in there.

Well said, but unfortunately we all tend to get tarred with the same brush, more so since the Government started its blitz on Disability Benefits. What a lot of people tend to forget is that the vast majority of disabled people have for many years, paid National Insurance contributions and are now (unfortunately) having to claim from that insurance policy. Do you consider yourself a "scrounger" if you make a claim on your car warranty, house insurance etc, ? If you have paid the premium you are entitled to make a claim, that's why its called Insurance.

Having to go through the emotional roller coaster of becoming disabled, losing your job, having to claim benefits, hospital treatments, etc etc is bad enough, but then being labelled a scrounger and the butt of peoples "jokes" is the icing on the cake.

I do appreciate what this forum is all about, and I am not complaining about the earlier comments as I know they were meant in jest, but when you are having a bad day and having to deal with a lot, even the smallest jibe is enough to send you over the edge. Whistle

I have also been "accosted" by people when I have parked in a disabled bay, the normal comment is " you don't look disabled to me" I normally just ask them what University they got their Degree in Medicine from, that is always met with a blank stare. Just because a person has all 4 limbs does not mean they are not disabled and for a layman, or woman, to make a diagnosis that quickly is amazing, why they are wasting their time stacking shelves or pushing paper in an office always amazes me, why are they not at the cutting edge of medical practise is beyond me.

That said I know there are people out there who abuse the system, just like there are people who abuse the law, there are men who abuse children but that doesn't mean every man is a child abuser.

Remember, unless you want to be branded a "scrounger" don't visit your Doctor for a subsidised prescription or accept a life saving operation in hospital and please remember to die before you are 65 so that you don't claim your old age pension Thumbs Up

The comment was made in another thread: it's the 5% of scumbags that ruin it for the other 95%. Rest assured the jokes are irmly aimed at the 5% - while the parody is aimed at our illustrious leaders of all parties Thumbs Up

My comment was certainly said with intention of reflecting the current ironic anti-disability ...anti-family ...anti-everything except me, me, me stance of sections of society and government. Though on a serious note I do think that some organisations tip the balance in excessive provisions which are beyond the rational requirement.

Having a sister who has had a disability all her life and a father who became disabled through illness I am well versed with the stigma of having a disability in this society. I work for an organisation that lobbies intently for equalities in this regard. ...and I am instrumental in donating and raising roughly £5k each year for the RBL and H4H.

As Al says humour is as relevant in dealing with this subject as the seriousness which it deserves so please don't tar me with any brushes either Thumbs Up

The driver was in the D4 and I doubt he left his seat. So not quite the same as parking. I expect that the police officers involved were following procedure.

Not condoning this in anyway, but if this was on private land then no law was broken.

I am now calm and, once more, a luvverly, pleasant chap. I have sprayed some Febreze and put on a whalesong CD (actually PG's Fleetwood Mac's 'Shake Your Moneymaker' at max volume) so peace has returned.

Having read and re-read all the posts to date I have come to realise that there is a solution to the misuse of disabled parking slots by unthinking and uncaring drivers. I have therefore mounted a Browning .50 on my vehicle and will be visiting a supermarket carpark in your area soon should you consider my solution appropriate. 8)
