I am going out to the back country for a trip in a couple of months and need a second 18" spare to toss up on the roof rack. If I order a rim from Landrover, I imagine I'll need an armed escort for the trip. Any suggestions for an alternative? 2006 HSE TDV6 Bonatti Grey, ECB bull bar, tropical roof, LG Next G car kit, Tom Tom GPS, UHF, Mitchell Bros tow bar, Kimberley Kamper Limited Edition camper trailer and 23 foot Haines Signature half cabin (Towed separately!)

don't know where to get a cheap 18" wheel/tyre, but you can get 17" rims steel, as a spare?

might be an option...

Thanks Simon - I may have to do this. I was hoping touse one of my older 18" tyres as the spaer, but will check. Are the 17" a special - as in Landrover or another make? 2006 HSE TDV6 Bonatti Grey, ECB bull bar, tropical roof, LG Next G car kit, Tom Tom GPS, UHF, Mitchell Bros tow bar, Kimberley Kamper Limited Edition camper trailer and 23 foot Haines Signature half cabin (Towed separately!)

they are made by a 3rd party, Dynamic, to LR Disco 3 specs eg. PCD, stud hole size etc... what would be crictical is that the overall rolling diameter of whatever tyre you put on the 17" wheel was the same as for your 18" wheels.
I'll probbaly have to the same thing in a couple of years when I do my BIG trip...
cheers,

Thanks Simon,
I spoke to my tyre bloke and he says that tyres to suit 18" on 17" rims won't be a problem.
I reckon you are to have a problem if you do THE BIG TRIP! The Buckingham Blue will show the dirt!
Cheers and thanks,

And the Bonatti Grey doesn't show the dirt of course!
Pbob - where did you get the ECB bar from for the D3? Didn't know they did one...
Enjoy!
cheers,

Right That makes TWO people in Mudgee on this forum, not bad for a town with a population of 10,000.
Especially when I KNOW that there are only four D3s that 'live' in the town, so a 50% presence (well sort of I will make fifth D3 when it arrives!)!
peter regards
Peter

Simon,
I have had 4 D2s before this one - one 1998 V8 with a well known bar that when I hit a roo, went straight through the bonnet. I suggested some changes to the design, but was met with a big no, so I moved on and bought ECBs from the factory in Qld. I think mine was the second one that they built for a D3, it is in ripple black and is solid and looks good.
If you click onto google and type in ECB bullbars you will get the site and the pics.
Yes, the Bonatti Grey does show the dirt, but not as much as my last Disco (the only D2 HSE manual that was ever built). It was in RangeRover dark blue and whilst a nice colour did show the dirt pretty well.
Hullo to Peter, we met outside the grocery shop one day and I will be interested to see your car when it arrives. I meant to say to you that if you wish to have a drive sometime (in case you haven't steered one as yet) feel free to have a go. 2006 HSE TDV6 Bonatti Grey, ECB bull bar, tropical roof, LG Next G car kit, Tom Tom GPS, UHF, Mitchell Bros tow bar, Kimberley Kamper Limited Edition camper trailer and 23 foot Haines Signature half cabin (Towed separately!)

Thanks for the info on the 17" rim this was going to be my last option but will be now my first, price of a LR rim is approx $ 1400. We are planning a trip across the Simpson mid year but are still waiting for the new Discovery to arrive. Have sold the D2.
Regards to all

G'day PBob,
Why do you need to take a rim along? I will be taking three tyres along that are not on rims and have a set of tyre pliers and levers etc that I will have to use if the necessity arises.
I have hung two spare 18" tyres under my caravan and will also have one in the rear of the D3 as well as the normal spare on a rim thats under the rear of the car.
If you just take the tyre it’s a weight saving on the roof rack that has a tiny 75kg limit.
Just a thought,
TDV6

Yes, this is a thought, especially as I will carry a second spare for the camper as well. I am only putting on the roof rack (Rhino) the two wheels and nothing else. The rest will be jammed into the camper, loaded into the D3,
- but of course we will have far too much gear and won't use it all. Someone said you should lay it out on the lawn look at it all and put half of it back to leave behind! 2006 HSE TDV6 Bonatti Grey, ECB bull bar, tropical roof, LG Next G car kit, Tom Tom GPS, UHF, Mitchell Bros tow bar, Kimberley Kamper Limited Edition camper trailer and 23 foot Haines Signature half cabin (Towed separately!)
