I could p/ex and have been offered £26k against a FL2 or another D3, however I would prefer to sell privately and then be in a position to waive cash at various dealers and get the better bargain. I know finance is often better for them but as I know how much discount is available on both cars I feel I would be in a stronger position. Was also toying with the idea of a nice D1 300 Tdi and a Ford S-Max so I need the money.2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

I sympathise but am not too surprised it's not selling. It's a V8 - therefore perceived as a fuel-hungry beastie.
Also it's a full-on, balls-out off-roader which scares off the average punter looking for something to cart around little Jessica's pony.
Why not keep the disco (to play with at weekends) and buy something for a couple of grand for putting the mileage over? e.g. good old volvo/saab estate? 850's T5s are fun, cheap, Do 26mpg and go forever. My missus' one refuses to die.
That way you'll keep the running costs down and have a great offroader. and can blat around in a T5
Just a suggestion...

CFB, Maybe get some serious written quotes on a good LPG conversion.
Then wave that at a potential buyer.
For high milers, pay-back will be quick. [i know I did it in a previous life].
It should also 'up' the desirability when they come to sell [it did it for me].
AND, they'll still have a V8 ... AND it's a G4 ... AND it's [exclusive] Orange
...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
< ‘tis but a mere scratch …….. it’ll polish out.
