I am not aware of any major components carried across from the DII. The engines are all different. Every body panel is new. The suspension is independent, mounted on sub-frames with a "body integrated chassis" or similar marketing speak. Steering is entirely different.

It does have the green oval...

PR says that it was an independent LR design, although i'd be suprised if the blue oval suits didn't have an overview and final sign-off, there are no common components with D1 or D2, although some minor components are marked FoMoCo or Volvo.... Evil or Very Mad

I recall reading on this forum that the internal vehicle design code name originated with BMW, and that all the initial design parameters were well established by the time Ford bought LR and took over. I think I recall that a comprehensive redo by Ford was undertaken before they allowed LR to proceed with the program, but that it was largely unchanged in scope and design, but the parts were modified to borrow more heavily on Ford manufacturing partners and assembly techniques.

Or I might just be making it all up as I type. I'm really not sure.

Ford is to cars what MacDonalds is to food. Laughing They gave up selling the Explorer in Oz because it didn't work in the bush and wasn't too good on road either. I don't think Ford could design a vehicle like the D3. I've been told that Ford is trying to sell LR, I hope so as I had 2 Ford sedans(leased thankfully) and that was 7 years of misery and Ford wasn't interested in fixing them! Big Cry

I think it's good to have a big company like Ford on your side that way you have access to their enormous financial and engineering resources. If it weren't for Ford I don't think LR would have the fabulous TDV6, manufacturing techniques like, hydoform, or the ability to cross source componenets and engines from other sister companies. LR without a large car company like Ford would not have been able to affort the development costs for a new car platform such as the Disco 3. I hope Ford doesn't sell LR and maitain it's current commercial relationship with LR.

well put Mr Atom Thumbs Up

It was the oomph behind BMW that allowed the current FFRR development.

Pay attention at the back!

Open the lower glove box lid and look at either end where there are some triangular hooks which are the curry hooks. They work a lot better than appearances suggest.

Cheers, Steve
