Over 16,567 miles, standard 08 auto HSE diesel, 50:50 A-roads & town traffic, manually calculated (hence correct) average fuel consumption = 23.63mpg. Standard engine map = 22.48mpg over 4013 miles. Remap 1 = 24.27mpg over 8904 miles. Remap 2 (inc. LR software update) = 23.43mpg over 3648 miles. Shell City 24.33mpg. Shell V-Power 24.17mpg. Tesco 23.33mpg. Esso 22.95mpg. Have not done enough miles on BP Ultimate or Waitrose standard to offer any sensible figures. Best ever = 27.83mpg motorway run. Worst ever = 20.12mpg.

Now that sounds more like mine, I was thinking mine had a drink problem! 90 Defender(Daughter driving at the mo)

for the record, done 50k in 2 years in my SE auto, it does - 23.6 around town, 30.2 on the motorway, driving stye and technique do not seems to make afifference (i know some will disagre with that statement, but the mpg always evens out) 2007 TDV6 SE

23 mpg seems to be the best we can expect as an average over the lifetime of the vehicle.

Always thought my fuel consumption a bit steep for a manual as even on long runs struggle to get above 27MPG and keep withing speed limit as too many cameras about. Had some problem with sticking control rod {dealers say so} to the variable vanes to the turbo causing a momentary bong saying engine system fault which usually cleared almost instantly unless booting to overtake then it would drop into limp home mode needing engine to be stopped and restarted. Interestingly though fuel consumption went up to 31/32MPG while this fault existed. Now the rods freed off and the fault gone consumption is struggling to get much above 26MPG. All driving over same routes and same type of driving. Has left me wondering if there is adjustment on this rod and can it be set up differently on different cars as there seems to be a huge variation as to what mileage one gets between different disco's. Any thoughts folks?

Early days with mine yet - but my first tank and I got a true (Brim to brim fill) of 28.2mpg - which also tied up with the computer. And that was exactly the same as my 42K average in my Defender.
Currently computer is saying just under 30mpg - but did go to 31/32 last weekend after a decent run (Though mostly through town and county - so not constant speed motorway) All this week has been round town.
And thats a 2006 Auto.
But it has to be said, that I don't boot it everywhere - did that as a kid, and too old for it now - but I will give it some every now and again.  Mark.

I was promised that fuel consumption would improve with use - however after 5 years my auto does not give better than about 24mpg. I achieved 25-26 mpg before the last service. I use Esso but I think i'll try Shell in future as the figures displayed here suggest that I can improve mpg average. I am a careful driver, using all fuel saving techniques I know and am not heavy on the accelerator.
Quite frankly I feel cheated. When the car was advertised Landrover suggested a higher mpg. Both the Disco 2 and Defender 90 I used to drive gave more mpg.

I don't know if my fuel use experience is shared by others but I find it a little odd. Driving steadily 55-60 ish I get around 23 mpg out of my TDV6 auto. Ramp it up to a long distance thrash at 80 mph ( overseas incidentally) I get 27/28 mpg. The only vehicle I have ever owned that saves fuel when I hammer it ! Just dragged 2700kg right across Europe as quickly as I dared and still got 22 mpg. The harder I drive it the better it goes! T'riffic!

My D3 manual is fully "run in". Just over 125,000 miles now.
If I drive her steadily at about 55 - 60 mph, the computer indicates around 35 - 32 mpg.
Hoon it and it then becomes 24 mpg.
Fuel consumption in no longer a worry really. It's all the parts of the car breaking & falling off that are a nuisance.
Perhaps it's time for a change soon.......... another D3, D4 ???
I bought a bottle of diesel injector cleaner last week. (Thought the old girl might appreciate it).
Upon checking the ingredients, up to 80% kerosine & up to 20% isopropol alchohol.
Did I see a previous post where a chap accidently put a bit of unleaded fuel in his diesel D3 & his fuel consumption improved? Mmmm. Mitsubishi Outlander Phev 4H 2018.
