I've not done a set for a while but removing the rear left light and lowering the spare wheel a bit is all that is required.

Same here Robbie. I can't see why anything different should be needed for any other year either. I certainly wouldn't be pulling the bumper off. Robse, if you want to pop down the M11 at the same time as Raul we can have a tow electric party. I suggest all invited bring their scruffs to wear under the rear bumper as anyone turning up in a suit is gonna get it dirty!

I did mine all by myself Laughing

Got the removeable tow bar off eBay for £90 (2nd hand) and full twin tow electrics for I think £70 off eBay as well - took me a couple of hours to do the electrics, I think there‘s a guide on the forum somewhere. I also had to take the left rear light cluster off, but to be honest it was very straight forward, just a bit fiddly to push the cable through.

Found this on eBay, full twin electrics for £106 (I think you could get cheaper if you do a decent search)
eBay Item No. 320814570230

The Tow ball seems to have gone up in price recently for 2nd hand, but you should be able to get one for around the £100

United Kingdom 2009 Discovery 3 TDV6 GS Manual Stornoway GreyDiscovery 3

Wait a bit - my D3 came without towbar and electrics (or so I was told). When I got it home I took the plastic covers off to find a 13 Pin socket factory fitted and all I had to do was purchase a detachable towbar to fit straight into the hole which is also already there from the factory.
Also no upgrade to the car all worked fine as soon as hitched up.

Check what you have first!

Well my electrics have a bracket that fits under the bumper below the rear left light cluster so if I'm going to do it properly it has to come off !!

Check out the eBay link I posted and it shows a flat panel with what look like hook type things on it in the box. I wouldn't be dropping the bumper to fit it though. I'd try to fit without removal or try something else.

This is the bracket, there is two looms that plug together on this bracket with 3 plugs/sockets.

I wonder why they've complicated the whole thing??
So now there are two looms connected by three plugs which attach to a bracket for which you have to remove the bumper.
Madness. Rolling Eyes
Sounds like they saw an opportunity to make £450 to me.

This arbitrary pricing is something I don't understand about LR dealers. The same part you quote, VPLAT0136 http://accessories.landrover.com/gb/en/dis...electrics/ is advertised by LR itself at £225 "Pricing includes VAT and Retailer fitting costs".

In light of the other comments and if you actually do need to remove the bumper, £225 all inclusive is not a big price to pay. I found the same part, new and genuine, at about £140 and under this perspective £85 doesn't sound like a dishonest request.

What I don't understand is how the dealer can feel at liberty to just double the advertised price. Have you tried to ask them why they double LR's price? It may be woth asking LR itself to see what they say.

Raul the £450 is just labour cost to fit the electrics, I got them from Dan at Duckworths for only £115 but when I saw how difficult it was going to be (After everyone had said how easy it was !) I thought I'd get a fitting quote.

I fitted mine to an 06 D3 as 12n 12s twin electrics, when I changed my caravan from a Carlight to a new Swift I cut off the two sockets and fitted a 13 pin socket of eBay for about £6. With some help from here with the wiring diagram too, I should add. Thumbs Up Everything worked for the twin socket setup without enabling anything including fogs and sensors. This was before and after the socket swap. My D4 had the lecky fitted by the dealer who supplied (Ongar Bridge Thumbs Up ) and they are still having trouble with the reversing sensors going off with the caravan attached. They didn't remove the bumper when they fitted the 13 pin electrics as far as I'm aware.
