I astounds me the stupidity of some caravan owners. mind you once was over taken by a Nisan Micra towing a caravan on the M8 thing was swinging between 2 lanes thankfully plod was behind him blues and two's going and pulled him over hope they banned him for life. Land Rovers don't leak they just mark there spot

Towing a caravan with a D3 at 60mph is fast enough for me... in a split second things can go very wrong

Examining my caravan and starting to prepare it after winter storage, it still had the legs down and had not been moved, I heard a “pop” and what sounded like a tyre going down fast, on investigation I found the centre part of the valve the part that a pump is connected to had blown out and let the tyre down in seconds, had this have happened on a motorway at 60 I dread to think what the result would have been. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

^ yup- had to go to North Oxford on Friday afternoon, so made sure that my route back was cross-country to keep moving, avoid the queues, and enjoy a far more interesting drive. Happy just to keep it local for three days. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

^ not with a Disco you cant due to the gross weight. Stupid thing is a lighter outfit and arguably less stable is legally allowed to tow faster. Madness!! Today is the oldest you've been and the youngest you'll ever be again.

I was passed out on a motorway once by a large merc towing the smallest trailer you could get. I was doing about 75-80mph and he was easily doing well over 90mph. One or other of the wheels was in the air the whole time I often wondered if he had forgotten he had it on as he wouldn’t have been able to see it in any of his mirrors

Having been involved with tow car testing for the past eleven years, part of the test is towing on a dual-carriageway (test track at MIRA) at 60 mph. If the outfit feels stable at 60, it is suggested that we do the return at 70 mph. Most things there are stable at 60 mph (perfectly ballasted caravans for each individual car, with ideal noseweights, and perfectly flat roads with no other traffic), but it’s amazing how much instability creeps in between 60 and 70. There are some VERY popular tow cars that IMHO are downright dangerous at 70!
Even the D5 isn’t as stable as the D4 was (evidenced by live data from the caravan ATC system monitored by an engineer from Al-Ko), but the ONLY cars that I’ve taken above 70 (for the hell of it - but remember it’s on test tracks!) are the D4, D5, RR Sport (old and new), FFRR (old and new) and latterly the Velar.
There are some very good tow cars made by other manufacturers, but without being biased, the best is the D4!
I generally tow at 55-60 with my own, after all, we’re on holiday so what’s the rush?

Where the D4 really excells is in the overtake im always happier when towing to do an overtake on an uphill incline as the unit always feels rock solid the power of the D4.allows a contolled uphill overtake without dropping any speed ..the downhill overtake is always more lively especially passing a coach or lorry MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car

+1 uphill is where really shows it’s ability, but you can find you’re being naughty if you’re not careful. I have to say I find towing at 55-60 far more dangerous than keeping a steady 65-70 in good conditions as it keeps you up with the traffic and out of the clutches of the hgvs. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
