I’d be interested to see that. Using the parking brakes worries me though as they seem fraught with issues on the working d3!! Laughing

I would guess that the parking brake module merely works of a binary signal - on or off - via the various switches on the car? Therefore maybe simply move the handbrake switch from the cabin?

The electronic handbrake work fine so long as the drums and pads are kept in good order and serviced/cleaned regularly.

You and me both. My Dad was singing the praises of my Cousin who was doing this with a L200, and how they had come up with a solution to maintain the hydraulic braking.

I kept saying why. In the end my Dad said why not. (Because its Censored stupid)

Type approval only applies to manufacturers. Individuals building a trailer need to undergo the IVA test which is much easier and only costs about £70 for light trailers below 0.75 tonnes.

That said lI do expect an A-pillar backwards D3 camper trailer would be a lot more than 0.75t

Over 0.75 tonnes is in the next cost bracket but is still an easy test the only real difference being the requirement for brakes.

So the build is going well. I have striped everything I don’t need off the chassis, and given it a lick of paint. I have worked out how to keep the air suspension, and I’m going to use the drum brakes as the braking system. Inside cab is stripped too. In a few weeks I will be putting the body back on, cutting the chassis and filling the massive hole in the front!

^^^^ agreed, way to heavy for what it is. Being that the body is so strong you could probably get away with not using a chassis and just fitting a draw bar to it.

You won't get it approved using the standard drum brakes, to be compliant it needs to have brakes that don't apply when you are reversing, trailer brakes have special brake shoes with a slipper assembly to achieve this.

Yes you are correct but the tow bar I am using has a reverse pin which negates the need for slipper shoes.

Wow, manual reversing lock. Thought they had been done away with in the late 70's!
