Tyre wear
Guys
Just got the car back from the stealers for some engine work which is software fixed apparently!
They checked the tyres as they seemed to be wearing a little to much in my opinion.
Nearside front came back at 4mm and all others 5mm left, this is after 8000 miles in an auto with my wife driving real slow with our 4 little kids on board. No towing and about 1500 of those miles on the motorway.
There Pirelli 255/60R18.
Does this seem right as I'm sure they come new with 9-10mm so I've got around 3-4000 miles left before they all need replacing!

15,000 miles & 4mm left on all 4 (255/19 Pirelli). Maybe yr wife's throwing it around when your not looking .....I liked my D2, but my D3's better ....(& the RRS better still)
Yeah, that will wear out the rubbers. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Pirellis start with just 8mm (ISTR), got down to 5mm on my HSE 19"s with 15000 miles when I sold it. Saying that, my 18"s that I took off this D3 were down to 6mm in 5k miles before I started using 17" wheels (then the 18"s would need replaced at 15000 miles at that rate).

Only just spotted this post after a search re tyre wear. My 07 XS is due for its first service on Saturday having now done almost 15k since I bought it (new) at the end of March. One of the things I have asked them to look at is the apparent wear on the front tyres (rear's look OK). I can't for the hell of me find my tyre guage so I can't be precise as to how much tread is left, but they look well worn - bearing in mind on my last Disco (2), I went for 45k on the original tyres before changing for a set of BFG's and there was still plenty of wear left in the originals - I'm not in the habit of burning rubber excessively!. There is no way these Scorpions are going to last beyond 20k at the most - and probably not that.
Was in some mud on Saturday and they were useless - slipping and sliding all over the place. Can feel a set of Grabbers coming on - but am miffed that I am obviously going to have to go to that expense, so soon. Any comments, anyone?I was taught to be cautious.

Had to replace all four scorpions after 22000 carefully driven miles from new, having changed front to back at 12000. Inside edges of both fronts much more worn than the rest of the tyre surface, but apparently this is normal...? Compares poorly with my TD5 which still had two original tyres at 42000 when I sold it.

According to the dealer, my tyres weren't worn excessively and had 4 to 5mm across all tyres - but I still don't think they're going to see 20k at this rate. I was also told that it wasn't unusual for Disco3's to require new tyres at first service (15k) and that it was mainly due to he weight of the vehicle and the suspension. Not convinced - especially in view of the mileage I got out of the tyres on the D2's.I was taught to be cautious.

The OE tyres are c p
They are meant to be quiet , soft and handle well so you
get a pleasant experience on your test drive
Nearly all OE tyres are the same for the same reasons

Having all ball joints replaced to sort out uneven trye wear
Recently picked up a stone in rear tyre which trashed the tyre. Took the car to a tyre depot and they reported that the rear tyres were wearing unevenly, with the inside of each tyre wearing quicker than the rest of the tyre.
Took the car to my dealer and they've had the car for 3 days now and are replacing all 4 ball joints as it's a 'known problem' apparently with early Disco 3's. Car is an 05 model with 18k on the clock. Anyone else heard of this problem?
