Rob,
The Cooper SST really is an MT, not an AT. It's a pretty aggressive tread (and loud!).
Cheers,

Jonesy, are you sure Coopers make a Light Truck ATR in 245 70 -R17? The only one I could see in their website was passneger construction with a load rating of 110.

Jamo wrote:I couldn't find any so now I have two sets of rims and tyres.
The OE 18" rims with wrangler HP for road work
and a set of performance wheels 17" rims with Cooper LT245/70R17 STT's for bush work.
Jamo, sorry if this question has been asked, but what style of performance wheels 17" rims did you get (and do you have the model number handy)?
Have you been happy with the wheels and tyres you chose?

TDMP,
Jamo's got the style BB6 in 17"x 8"
they are a strong wheel with Load Rating of 1400kg ea . LR's Load Rating is 940kg ea.
The finish (paint) on them is okay but not as uniform as the nice LR OEM's but you don't care once they have been off-road and been scratched up..

Thanks Chris,
I assume you also have these wheels? Can I ask what price you got them for? Were you happy with that price?

Tristan I purchased a set of Performance BB6 17" rims from the local Tyrepower dealer in Sept last year. Cost was $250 per rim and $308 for Cooper STT tyre. This dealer supposedly gives Lour androver Club members a 10% discount so that might be cheaper than otherwise. I did not shop around.

Barry, that's a great price for the rims at $250 ea.
My rims are about 20 months old and at the time cost me $300 ea and after falling off my chair at $1200 ea for the D3 17" rim this was chicken feed. At that time I would have been one of the first few D3 owners to get these rims because I searched all over the place looking for the rim to fit the Disco stud diameter, right offset and most improtantly the right load rating.

Thanks Barry and Chris,
I'll use $250 as my "best price" starting point and see how I get on (anyone else interested - we may be able to get a "bulk discount"?? I'll travel as far as Melbourne to pick up). Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.

All,
Be aware that you can now also get a 17" steel rim to suit the Disco 3 - and at $125 per rim, even better pricing - available from Blackburn Tyre Factory in Melbourne, they're from Dynamic Tyres - see:
cheers,

Thanks all.
Simon, I saw reference to those wheels in another thread - do you own some? I am just a bit worried about what they look like (not too worried, though, as I would only be using them for "bush" work).
Can anyone comment on how the steel compares to the alloys for strength and durability? Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.

The steel is very strong - a bit heavier than the alloy of course. Upside of steel for offroad use is that steel can be bent back into shape - alloy cannot.
They look pretty good - check the web site for dyanmic tyres. I don't have a set but know of a couple of Melbourne guys whodo and seem happy with the wheel and the look.
cheers,

Simon,
I had a look at the Dynamic website for the D3 rims and whilst they might fit and are more durable than alloy I wonder about the centre hub ring diameter. It is huge compared to the alloys. My understanding (which is limited) is that the rim should sit on the hub ring and not just rely on the wheel nuts/studs to centre the wheel.
Do your friends who have these wheels have any issue with the wheel centre being so big? Unless of course the centre is the made the same size as the hub ring on the D3, it might be that the picture on the website doesn't show this.
I might be wrong about what I say but it is interesting to note the difference.
