Depends I suppose on how much cleaner the air gets and at what cost. I have lived in London for a long time and I haven't noticed any difference in the air quality since the ULEZ was introduced. The air seems very clean to me, and I grew up in the countryside and spend a lot of time there too. The real noticeable improvement in air quality came with the introduction of things like unleaded petrol, catalytic converters, DPFs, and getting rid of the old diesel TFL buses that belched soot everywhere they went. The London Underground is what gives me black bogies and makes my hair and clothes go dirty very quickly. You can often see the haze looking down the length of the platform from airborne particles, which is particularly bad on the central, picadilly, northern lines.

If it was a case of minute improvement to air quality at zero cost, fine. Or really significant improvement to air quality at some or even great cost, fine. But it's not. So 'who would complain about that' is easily answered really.

Until he retired a few years a go a friend of mine was General manager of one of the London Bus Garages. They had 10 fully electric buses on trial about the same time as the Boris Buses were being intoduced - they (the EB's) were lucky to have a 50% availability rate.

I really don't know why they have not re-introduced trolley buses's - they are pretty common in europe & of course use proven technology.

I can just imagine the conversation in khans vacated office in a few years time ;

Mr Mayour - we are loosing money on the ULEZ zones, we are paying Crapita more to run the schemes than we get.

Oh dear, better get Crapita to reprogramme the cameras we have left for pay as you drive.

Yes it does, although I'm pretty sure my nose hair is not thick enough to stop much more than a tiny proportion of the tube dust from entering my throat and lungs, sadly.

Considering they were going to cancel today's cricket match in Delhi as air was bad they barred any construction work etc. They said the air was 508 parts etc and London's average is 21 so says it all who needs ulez more he ought to stand for mayor of Delhi and see how long he lasts ??

As an slight aside from ULEZ but concerning Totally Failed London I see that uncle Rishi is bringing in legislation to control those rickshaw pedi/thingies in London & TfL have offered to adminsiter it - clearly, they have sniffed out more money to raise & squander.

Thought the pm couldn’t stop this , ref ulez expansion

They also set out their “Backing Drivers Bill” which would ban Wales-style blanket 20mph limits and reversing the Ultra Low Emission Zone (Ulez) expansion from inner into outer London.

Plus 1 , think they are really trying to scrape the barrel in finding new things to add to their manifesto that appeals to the general public

See that reform are also doing quiet well , some reports of them being a few points ahead

At the end of the day will be interesting to see what labour do to this country over the next few years, they are claiming to sort out the high car insurance

Won’t hold my breath and never known a time of having such poor candidates to choose from
