Warranty Advice

Hi all,

when I purchased my Discovery last month, I paid for a 2 year Warranty First policy (with a 3rd year "free"). I've attached the policy details as an image.

Although it includes wear and tear, it only does so up to 110,000 miles (current mileage: 108,000), so it will soon exclude: piston rings, cylinder bores, valve guides, timing chain tensioner, coil springs, clutch release bearings, fuel pump, ABS, EGR valve, airflow meter, PS pump, wheel bearings, shock absorbers.

- Also excludes: corrosion, seized parts, freezing, foreign matter getting into a part, the effects of overheating, natural deterioration of parts (which arguably means everything!)
- Labour up to £50 inc VAT
- 10% excess per claim
- Claims up to the value of the vehicle

Premium paid: £1,062 (So effectively £354/y)

I signed up for it because it sounded like a good deal when the salesman described it as including wear and tear, but having read the detail of the policy it seems rather less attractive, especially given the £2k per claim limit.

I would be grateful if anyone can advise me as to whether this is worth sticking with, or whether I should cancel it while I still can and go with a different warranty provider. I only have two days left to cancel so speedy replies are appreciated!

Many thanks,

Dean

Personally... I'd cancel it and try warranty direct... from the general view on this forum theyre by far the most comprehensive used vehicle cover at the moment.

Just got a quote from them for £477. Their MajorCare policy covers a number of the things that the other one excluded (piston rings, cylinder bores, valve guides, timing chain tensioner) and I can get £50 cashback with Quidco.

Policy seems to have no claim limit (up to vehicle value), so that is good.

Only downside is that it will only let me buy a year's policy online, I guess due to the age/mileage of the car. I wonder if they would let me renew at the end of the policy.

Try the 'search' function on the forum for +'warranty direct'...
they should offer 2 or 3 year cover - depends upon age/miles of your current car though.
Generally you can also 'bargain' out the 'betterment' clause too - apparently the best deals can be done on phoning.
