It would also be fair to say that if you get it serviced at a local independent and get your non-warranty work done there, then it might be seen as unreasonable to expect a warranty to fork out main dealer rates when you come to a claim. Check the terms of the agreement - they do reservere the right to move your car if they can fix it substantially cheaper elsewhere.

Read all the small print and take your chances - there are lots of things policies won't cover.

I'm a huge fan of Warranty Direct. They refurbished my autobox earlier in the year and Duckworths are currently replacing the engine which they are covering the cost of... and I've got 147K on the clock.

Perhaps at times they've been let down in the past by admin errors, and on a big claim it can take a little while to process, but they're genuinely good guys and pay fairly for a fair claim. Would highly recommend them.

Getting it fixed at a main dealer was not one of my concerns. I only really use them if my vehicle is still under the manufacturers warranty. But you have proved that good cover can be obtained with high mileage vehicles, would you care to let on what level of cover you have and most important, how much it cost Wink But I think your case shows that when it comes to failure of the engine, gearbox and possibly turbo charger these warranties are worth having. For everything else it seems to be pot luck!!

Going back to the AA, I found out the hard way that by not waiting to be taken to a garage on the back of a breakdown truck (I was attended by an AA patrol man) and using my initiative and booking the car in and getting it there myself (I thought I was saving the AA both time and money) they rejected the claim because I had proved the vehicle was still drivable (as long as it was during daylight hours, bit of a headlight issue!!)
