I've not had to replace parts yet and didn't know that individual parts were available from LR - that didn't seem to be an option when I checked a while back.

The FBH workshop manual is in my gallery here:

Will it need resetting via faultmate after or will it burst into life without anything ??

My webasto dealer is here in Norway so I can't really comment on the difference as its really expensive here anyway. The UK prices from the well known LR parts companies are around £110 for the chamber which includes the glow plug. The seal for around the top comes with the seals for the hoses and costs around £5.
Its hard to say which parts to change as a matter of course as a glow plug alone costs around £60, so I just wait until they start playing up and put a new chamber in.
The pictures I posted don't really show how bad the chamber is, but it was badly deformed and the insides did not look good. Washed out the casing, put a new chamber in and its running like a new one!
The circulation fan on the top of the webasto's have so far been ok on the ones I've done, but they are also known to get slack in the bearings after time.

EDIT:

Depends upon the faults. If it starts and then stops, then its more than likely to be an interlock fault which you can reset by removing the power. If its silly ones like low fuel Confused you'll need a diagnostic tool, (if you have a timer, see page 302 of the manual Robbie linked to - although never tried it myself).
If you have a BAS module then that will sort all your problems out (with regards to resetting faults, not knackered chambers Wink ). Whistle

I've only completely disassembled my own but got to see a number disassembled at the Webasto place. Not a great sample but the only things that looked like they suffered during use were the chamber and glow plug. Given the punishment I was surprised to see all the seals in really good condition when I would have expected them to have hardened or even split on removal.

£110 for a chamber and plug would make it tempting to swap out as part of an overall refurb and a no-brainer if a new plug was required on an older FBH.

I'd never worked on an FBH before working on my own and it took encouragement from the forum before I tried. For me being able to easily put the car into a drivable state was key as I had no idea what I would find on taking it apart or how long it would take to get parts or fix it. In the end I had it back in the car on the same day.

Having a coolant hose U-bend with 2 barbed connectors made it easy to restore the coolant pipes when the FBH was removed. Lost very little coolant too, as the FBH is quite high in the system - just enough to soak a rag.

The BAS tool resets faults but it also tries up to 3 times (each time you press the plip) and gets the FBH running if at all possible! Many FBH's won't start first time which is why the BAS tool is quite often the answer. Once the crud has been burnt off all is fine at least until the next winter.

Reworded it.... (not knackered chambers) Wink

Totally agree jdhx, the BAS is very useful that way, but you should see some of the chambers I have dissmantled. They have been totally buried in soot and no hopers.

The BAS has helped a lot of my customers and most get one installed when I do a overhaul. Would definitely recommend that as a start to people struggling. If it doesn't help fixing, its a good (preventative maintenance) investment for when the FBH is running again!

Have got my Webasto off and dismantled it is pretty clean inside the only thing i can find is that inside the glow plug chamber (which i cannot get into !! ) there is a rattling like there maybe a chunk of carbon in there that i cannot get at Confused is there a means of stripping down into the chamber as i cant see any or any means of getting at the charcoal inside.
Thought i might fill it with brake fluid to try and dissolve the little sod !!
Any thoughts greatly appreciated Thumbs Up

Have you taken the 2 washer like nuts off? They are quite hard to get off, but there is normally quite a lot of soot inside there (see 2nd pic on page 1). The actual chamber is all welded up so you can't really get too far inside.

They can be, but I'd try and clean it without taking them off, cause they're a Censored to take off!

Sharkey, if you have the time can you take some pictures as I didn't and there are not many photos of an FBH removal and overhaul on the forum?
