Ok, been and read the faults. Over and above the usual faults I see regarding the broken camera system, it displays the following. The turbo bypass and the fan are historic and that was the date the timing belts were changed. Manifold pressure fault is yesterday, so I guess it’s certain it’s the manifold.

PCM-Engine Diesel 3.0L

P006A-00 (E8) Manifold absolute pressure - mass or volume air flow correlation
( on 24-10-2020 16:44:01 at 189493 km )
P0033-00 (28) Turbocharger/supercharger bypass valve control - circuit open
( on 19-03-2020 11:27:02 at 182064 km )
P0480-13 (28) Fan 1 control circuit - General electrical failure - circuit open
( on 19-03-2020 11:27:01 at 182064 km )

I saw on a thread somewhere that someone had managed to glue theres up. Not sure if it was meant to be a temporary or permanent fix.

Could it be taped up, or anything similar as a field repair?

Taped up, faults cleared and trundled round to the local stealer to chop in for a shiny new Deafner? Question

Or £130* for a new manifold, a couple of hours day?!?! to fit it, keep the D4 until they start discounting Defenders when the initial rush of spending holiday money on cars has subsided and the cack has really hit the fan on car sales?

(*£230 if you buy one in a white and green box instead of a brown one)
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I think you have it Alan. Just cleared faults and driven. Got to the village before it faulted again. Not really drive able in current state. I’m presuming that the local garage will be as busy as usual, so diy is what I’ll do.

It’s near side so unfortunately that’s the harder one I think.

I’m sure it is DIY. Looks like plenty to remove to get to it, and a bit of a fiddle. I’ll have a parts list to get together. I’m sure it will be more than just a manifold in a brown box!

Car needs to be fixed ASAP because SWMBO says so.

That’s impressive. I can imaging the reaction rolling up at a caravan club site in that!!
