Hadn't seen the picture last night, there are only 3 models, Momentum, R Design and Inscription, the body mouldings on that one are an extra, didn't see them when building mine but have seen them on accessories pages since, I think circa 2K from memory. Does make it look more rugged but still pretty '16 Volvo XC90 R Design Bursting Blue (Vera)

I think the Volvo looks brilliant, and having owned a previous gen I was really pleased with the brand...
It's all down to cost though, and the Volvo has pretty much zero discount on them at the minute
The audi is almost 12% which makes a deal possible.
Did wash the disco yesterday and it looks the best of all 3, just worried what a d5 will do to any equity meaning a deal next year on anything becomes impossible...

The D5 and equity is certainly my worry too.
No idea what the answer is there - the GFV is still higher on a 16.6MY - but do i believe it.
Equally i think some of the others ive looked at will devalue faster and like you say, little to nothing off.
Although mines ordered, I have only 2 days to confirm as it gets locked in.
I wondered if the increase in D5 value may help D4 value - but who knows especially as the D4 could date like the RRS did. Conversely the D5 wont potentially be in in any numbers in October/NovemberMike
For me the D5 just doesn't do it, from the spy shots/digital images/camo shots I've seen. The D4 is a great vehicle and i've loved both (and a D3) I've owned, but I don't like having the last of a model (car envy) so thought I'd have a change. I may be back in 3 or 4 years to another disco if they look better in the flesh or they grow on me, but I got approx 4% discount on the Volvo, I know its not a lot but got a good trade-in deal too so I'm happy for the time being.

If you went with a Q7 I think you'll miss the interior space as well. It looks quite big from the outside but cabin and boot space are not what you think...

I think I'm just concentrating on the savings more than the car...
Pros
Save £30 per month and protect the equity into a new car for another 2 years
Newer tech and a great economical drive
Latest model should mean equity protected
Cons
Nowhere near as good looking as my car - I washed it yesterday and corris with the black pack looks awesome
3 kids are comfy In the back of the disco with a flat floor and the audi has Smaller rear seats with a transmission tunnel
I stand to lose £8,000 in 10 months, so whilst the cost to change I zero, it still doesn't feel right
Also to consider is that
I have free services with the disco as bought a 5 yr service pack
I run the risk of heavier depreciation once d5 introduced
Unless of course I sell privately and make money back from the original £15k I put in
Aargh!!!!!

While not a guarantee of future trends take a look at the prices of used Freelander 2 which have gone up since the arrival of Discovery Sport. A lot of Freelander 2 owners do not like the Discovery Sport and are looking to replace their current ones with newer versions and having to pay a premium for them.

How much more will you lose simply by adding the additional car change?
I think you can bank on a huge price rise from the D4 to D5, which will protect residuals in the same way that the FL2 has doggedly held its value since the DS was launched last year. Also, just like that change over, the D5 is likely to appeal to a new set of customers and alienate many of the faithful; when that happens, late, low mileage previous model cars are often in huge demand.
Update - blimey, exactly the same thought! There really must be some truth in it 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄
2021 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200
2022 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200 & sidecar!
(One of only two known to exist in the world!)
