We will see how well our extended warranty works! |
|
Hello Forumites... my D3 is around 5 weeks out of warranty. And last week the Transmission Fault message appeared followed yesterday by Air Suspension Fault light.
It goes into Australs next Monday... we'll see how we go. I am keen to know if the suspension compressor has failed again... you see it has been through 3 in 3 years.
Cheers

Well.. here is the news.
The Land Rover needs a new transmission and suspension compressor.
Land Rover don't want to know about it as the car is about 6 weeks out of warranty. The aftermarket warranty company are supposedly doing something.
The pain in the factor is that the car has sat for 3 days while "decisions are made". I have been complaining about the transmission for some time over the erratic changes when hot.
So.. I rang LRA myself today to tell them that I don't think it is normal for an auto tranny to die at 60K and for the car to spit out 3 suspension compressors in 3 years.
I got the mirror response... we'll look into it.
I love my D3.... but I can see a divorce coming up soon. The unreliability factor is just proving too much for me.
You know I owned a new Ford Festiva I bought for $12990 drive away in 1998. Under the warranty period, the screw fell out of the hinge on the ashtray. So Ford fitted a new ashtray. That was the sole warranty claim on that car and only repair to the car in 4 years and 80,000 k.
My next car will be a Korean offering with 5 years warranty. My off-roading adventures will now be confined to my Kawasaki KLR650.
Cheers

If it is on record that you have complained about the transmission before your warranty ran out then I would have thought they should honor something, Mercedes did when my friend had a similar problem with an E class.

In oz you will find you can claim a reasonable expectation of the transmission lasting longer. By law you have a claim. This is the reason manufacturers are happy to come to the party in some way before it goes further.

Don't laugh but I can't tell you who it is through. All the paper work is in the car... at the dealer. The service advisor tells me that they will approve the work.. but I think LRA should cough up!
Stay tuned.

Did you send a report to DOTARS? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

So here we are 4 days later.
Neither the dealer nor I have heard from LRA. However the extended warranty people are going to pay for the auto tranny to be repaired in Melbourne and to supply a new suspension compressor.
So the tranny comes out today to be shipped to Melbourne and god know when the car will be back on the road.
It's funny how you can do the paperwork to buy a car in 20 minutes but it can take 3 - 4 days for someone to decide who is going to pay to repair an item that should have ben fixed while the vehicle was clearly under warranty.
I have crossed the D4 from the list... It worries me that I might get a D3 with all its problems plus 1 more.
Cheers

So.. 5 days later. Because I have an extended warranty through a third party, Land Rover will not become involved in the post warranty issues. I don't know how they know; but they do.
So transmission on its way to Melbourne for an overhaul and a new or perhaps reconditioned suspension compressor to be fitted. The service manager told me that a short time ago LRA ran out of compressors as there were so many failing!
So the warranty score so far is: transmission, 3 suspension compressors, front ball joints, battery, brackets that hold the mid row seating, front differential, radiator expansion tank, windscreen, servo motor in the HVAC system, short circuit in the front fog lamp circuit.
How many other forumites have had this many problems with their Discos?
Cheers

Of the things you listed, we've had these:
Transmission, 1 suspension compressor, front control arm bushes, front differential
plus:
steering rack, airconditioner compressor, park brake winch, oil leak at turbo charger.
Really doubting purchasing a D4 at the moment.

Hi Russ... yes i left out the Park Brake motor thing... that took 4 visits to the dealer before it was eventually replaced.
D4? no thanks.
My needs for a car are changing since i bought the D3.. my next car will be a Korean offering with a 5 year warranty. Perhaps a Sante Fe diesel. I just need something to tow my light weight camper or trail bike trailer.
The D3 has been an overkill for what I actually use it for. I am not sure if i would venture across the desert in mine. I mean, what do you do if your suspension compressor dies in the middle of the Simpson? There goes your off road height capability etc.
Cheers

Mark,
MY extended warranty was offered to me by the LR dealer when I bought the car new. It is the Alliance one of 2 years.
I would argue that as the LR dealer sold it is is therefore considered a LR accepted product.
BUT it would be Alliance who pays out and Alliance who says it was fair wear and tear or not! regards
Peter

Hi Peter.. yes I bought the post OEM warranty from the dealer. I am just surprised that LRA know about it.
It is for another 4 years or 140K.
Either way, I am glad I am not paying to fix the old girl up.
While I really like the car, in fact I love it; it still amazes me how many things go wrong with it. Especially when it is considered a "Premium" car (Land Rovers words) and you compare it to the young girl next door's Suzuki Swift that just runs day in and day out without and problems.
Cheers

So the latest is... the transmission is in Melbourne and now it appears there are no valve blocks in Australia. LRA have told the dealer there will be a 2 week wait. This translates to the car off the road for a month.
How can there be no spare parts for a car that is still in production. Or has TATA's ownership meant a cut in inventory of parts in the far corners of the empire??
Cheers

P.S. The Korean offerings are looking better and better.
P.P.S. I have just waited 4 months to get a new interior mirror for my wife's BMW Z4 as well! Nothing of any value is ever achieved without some sacrifice.
