Its still for sale on EBAY & you can get to service pack 3

all our Macs (we have 4) use fusion & XP for the odd times we are forced to use Windows (usually a small program called RFlow for flow charts)

Could I upgrade a PC running Vista 64bit to Windows 8 using this deal? (Apologies if a dumb question; know v little about software, etc).

Just buy it on a disk, there is an option although a few quid more, but at least you know it 'should' work when required Thumbs Up

Put the question into google with make and model and it will tell you, also check the manufacturers site like I said earlier to see if they will support it after the upgrade, some older models they will not Wink

Once you start the process and before buying it the system checks your PC and advises you what will wont or may have difficulty working, you then decide before you buy.

I've just downloaded a copy for £14.99, could have paid an extra £9 for a DVD but then you also have to pay £3.75 in postage! So nearly £13 for a proper DVD copy - rather burn it to a disc myself.

You get 3 options when you download it (took 5mins to download but I have a 40mb download speed), upgrade now, create a USB memory stick (has to be over 3gb in size) or create an ISO image to burn to a dvd.

I'm going to set up a Virtual machine and see if I like it before removing windows 7.

I had an upgrade offer form Microsoft, just had to click the link in the email they sent me and then enter my voucher code on the order page otherwise it would have been £24.99. I presume that you will still get the same options when downloading a copy of the software as I was. Just going to follow the other link Discotres mentioned to get my media upgrade as well.

I received the upgrade offer as anyone who bought a windows 7 Pc between 2nd June 2012 and 31st January 2013 is entitled to an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for £14.99 - but they have to purchase the upgrade by the end of February. Dell refunded me for my 26 month old laptop as it was not economic to repair it, so I purchased a newer model from them - one thing that can be said about Dell is that they honour their warranties without quibble.

Maybe been said above or before

But how can the eventual 189 pound price be justified when you can get a lap top from Argos at just under 300 pounds with Windows eight installed.....?

Microsoft ought to realise that if they cant get the OS software "right" (frequent changes & versions, XP, Vista, version 7 now version 8.......all in five years...that always have to have the service pack to "work"

They ought to get the cost right i.e. at a level that is justified....

Maybe thats why corporate users are moving away in droves.....rightly so

I've got Win8 on my Samsung tablet and it is a joy to use.
The combination of decent multitouch and proper stylus support is a revelation.
A lot fewer improvements on the desktop but it is a definite improvement once you've spent just a little time to work out the shortcuts and settings.

I tried to get another licence for a different desktop I use before the deadline but we had a power cut and the BT section of the internet connection went down whilst trying to process the payment, which is not that unusual in our part of the world.

Paypal informed me the payment was not confirmed by Arvato (the Microsoft payment processor) so it didn't complete. When I was able to get back online it was £189, so I guess I'll stick with Win7 on that machine unless MS decide to do another offer.
