I have access to a welder. We all have access to a welder.
What's the point if all you want/need is one basket that will cost a couple of hundred?
Notwithstanding all the extras also required (nets, cables, ties) - it comes with warranty and normal conusmer protections?D3 07 SE - still going strong

At the end of the day he has made a product that is well made and suitable for the job, he will also back the product and if there are issues will resolve them.
The product costs a sum of money with which every person has the right to buy or walk away from, on top of that there is development costs, manufacturing costs, advertising costs etc
So yes you may be able to make one cheaper in your garage with a welder, but the time taken to get materials together, take measurements, build paint etc is it worth it for a one off? Many would think not and buy one
I don't have one because I have a D5 and he does not make one for the D5, but if he did and it fitted the purpose for me, then yes I would buy one MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

This thread now reminds me of a recent Facebook thread that was very short-lived...MY2008 D3 - It got me hooked...gone
MY2012 D4 - It kept me hooked...gone
MY2007 D3 - Mid-Life crisis toy continues driving me to bankruptcy...
MY2018 "D5" Si6 - But is it a "true" LR...discuss...but now gone
Back in a D4 with a lot of extras....
my problem is that the solution I've come up with is (aside from being brilliant ) is soooo simple I really can't think why no-one else would just do their own.
so as a potential source of income it's probably not going to get off the ground.
mind you ... D5 version - aimed at people with more money than sense - I'd only need to sell 3 a year to have a decent income.

I had a mantec one. The biggest problem with them was getting anything in to them over the lip as it were.
These ones, as I understand it, will "drop down" so they can be loaded.
