My personal opinion is that a parking brake (handbrake if you prefer) requires maintenance just the same as the old lever based ones did.
Sorry that's not quite the right comparator eh....in all the other motors I ever owned they never had the handbrake adjusted or maintained. You are right in saying "it is what it is" though ...it's a useless piece of 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

The EPB is adjusted at each service isn't it, so it is mantained as part of a routine service. This is the same as the old style handbrakes.
The fact so many fail between services, means it is not very well designed. I have given up using mine unless absolutely necessary.

TFC - I did deliver the car there for the service and took their loaner for a couple of days whilst the work was done. There were no two forms to sign - that would have helped with teh expectation setting probably.
My request for them to collect it was to remedy the door seal which hadn't been fixed properly.
Just to be clear again on the wash - it wasn't the fact that it wasnt done that irked (though it was annoying to find that on top of everything else I found when I collected the car) it was the attitude in the response of "You've had your discount so there's no problem here!!" Not really customer focussed.
Hey ho, maybe I was expecting too much from our God-like dealer, maybe they were having an off day...

Of course I meant outside of the normal servicing CW 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Cleaning and washing your Disco when you bring it in for maintenance?
That's really a good one. I should forward this post to a (any) Belgian LR- dealer cq. to Land Rover Belux. Bet they have a stroke right away.
Come and pick up your car when you are at 45 miles from dealer premises?
That's even a better one. I should...ditto...Bet they drop dead right away.
Chaps, you don't know how lucky you are. If you cross the Channel or pass trough the Tunnel, better bring your own bucket and sponge with you.
What a luck Belgians are not (yet) ruling Great Britain

Mine's fine. And every car I ever owned needed brakes maintained. Yes it's not the best, I accept this. I'm happy to spend an hour cleaning it twice a year though. Small price to pay for peace of mind, for me anyway. Besides, it gets me out of one of SWMBO's 5 minute jobs
EDIT. Can't spell

The point is it is maintaned like the old one's at every service, but it still goes wrong between services and leaves you stuck with no warning.
Non of my others cars have got stuck due to a handbrake. It should last between services, as that is the point of setting service intervals and designing the components.
My EPB was serviced about 2K miles ago and when it went in this week for some work they reported it was screeching again.

I'm old and type slowly
EDIT. Totally OT but have LR sorted the EPB on the D4 - like maybe have it actuate the calipers.....? This is what the wife's S Type has, same modules etc but pulls a lever arm on the rear caliper. Works fine. Possibly caliper swap upgrade maybe. Wishful thinking I bet.

most dealers will take the 'check the adjustment' part to mean that when the EPB is operated, it operates normally, if not, it needs ajustment, cleaning or repairing and is therefore subject to an additional charge. My personal opinion and service process is that the correct adjustment can only be determined by carrying out the adjustment procedure - I allow sufficient time for this in my service times and costs which is why I cannot carry out more than two services per day, clearly this would not be cost-effective for a dealership of any marque with workshop overheads

I had my D3 serviced/MOT'd at YLR on Monday, and found the experience every bit as good as I have had in the 2 previous years it has been there .Although they did force me into a MY10 RRS loaner this time To hear that Peter the DP might be regretting the association with us forum members is somewhat disconcerting and I hope this is not the case, but can understand the reasoning behind that. Doug, Barry, and of course Nick, have always done their utmost to accomodate me. I even asked Doug not to bother having my car washed as it would get absolutely filthy again on the way home, but they still did it. Hope this is not the end of good customer service, as most of my local dealers are appalling, to put it mildly.

That is the case.
not always the case me thinks.
Had mine collected on Monday this week for service, first MOT and end of warranty check and I wasn't asked to sign anything or given any any paperwork to view. They just knocked the door asked for the keys and were on their way.
This was TH White land rover wootton bassett. I have something to say! It's better to burn out... than to fade away!

Different dealers so different procedures... YLR papertrail is different to that of other dealers i've used - doesn't mean they're better or worse, just the compliance procedures vary. Because I don't carry out LR warranty work, it's not an issue to me but I can see the need to make a clear distinction when the vehicle is accepted by the dealer
