DN, your autobox will be totally fine with AG55; this older spec has been on the market for a while and is a good product. I am pleased people are taking ATF changes into consideration rather than the 'sealed for life' nonsense that has undermined an otherwise excellent transmission.

Aaaarghhhh! Just looked a bit further into this, and it appears that this oil, although suitable for the ZF8 speed g/box, it appears to be not suitable for the Zf6hp26 g/box fitted to D3's. ZF LIFEGUARD 6 oil is the stuff, which is ZF s671 090 255. Damn, too late to cancel the order by the look of it. Any D4 8 speed owners wanting this oil, let me know, as it is no use to me.
chocolademan is looking for some, you could always arrange to post your order to him in Norway for cost.David

I will see what transpires, it depends on whether the supplier reads and understands my message before sending either AG60 or AG55. ........... Edit, they didn't change my order to AG55, so I am stuck with 10 litres of AG 60, for 8 speed gearboxes only. Anyone wanting this oil, particularly in the W. London area, give me a shout, but I must stress, I can't give it away. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

Mannol
I noticed this at the weekend on the VLS (Verification of lubricant specifications) site (need to open the PDF)
To be fair it's about 5w40 rather than this oil, but the outcome is it fails to meet specifications. Perhaps it's a one off but it's something to be aware of.Paul Redding

Whilst Mannol (SCT) and ZF are both German companies the specification and additives of their ATFs are actually from a Dutch company called Infineum. Infineum is a joint venture between ExxonMobil and Shell, so reasonably large in the scheme of things.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Should the thread be retitled if this is for the 8 speed only if it's not suitable for 6 speed? I've got 20 litres of the stuff if anyone's with an 8 speed is looking for some Bodsys Brake Bible

According to their website it is designed for most 8, 6, and 5 speed ZF automatic gearboxes. Although the spec does only relate to the 8 speed gearbox for Land Rovers.
I might contact them on Monday to get confirmation one way or the other.
I have an 8 speed and have saved a small fortune thanks to Robbie.David

Mannol say it is compatible and list the 6-speed boxes (and 5-speed) on the packaging and their datasheet - and you know how cautious I am.

So why would Mannol's director UK, tell me that I need AG55 for my g/box (see e mail in my gallery) ? .... As for the bumph on the oil carton, I am of the opinion that all these type of companies like to tell you that their oils can do everything under the sun, but ultimately it is down to the end user to check that the spec tallies, and for AG 60 and the ZF6HP26 g/box, this doesn't. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. I'm not trying to persuade anyone to use this ATF, but it is a good product which has been designed by a major company to meet or exceed the requirements for the 5, 6 & 8-speed ZF boxes.
I cannot post proprietary information but I can assure you that it leaves me in no doubt as to its suitability. Setting that aside for a moment Mannol do publish openly that it can be used in the older ZF transmissions and print this on their bottles. If you don't believe the oil manufacturer then clearly this ATF is not for you.
I did read the recommendation in your gallery from the UK distributor to use AG55 in 6-speed boxes. Again, I don't doubt that fact as AG55 meets the specification and (usually) retails at a lower price. The note to you does not say that AG60 cannot be used in the 6-speed - it would be rather odd if they went against Mannol Germany and their own literature.
This does not detract from the newer AG60 which meets or exceeds the specification for the 5, 6 and 8 speed ZF transmissions. In this context the bargain price for AG60 tilts the debate somewhat towards the higher specification product.
Hope this helps calm any fears.
