P0046 is related to Turbocharger boost control.

This code is raised by the engine ECU (PCM).

P0046

Description

Turbo/supercharger boost control solenoid – circuit range/performance

Meaning

Possibly, it means the turbo charger is being asked to supply an invalid level of boost. While the description mentioned "turbocharger", more often than not (especially if there is ONLY this fault logged) it is NOT a turbo fault, but something that supplies values to the turbocharger.

Causes

  • Faulty Mass Airflow sensor (MAF)
  • Faulty Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor (MAP)
  • Split intercooler hose
  • Sticking turbocharger actuator rod

Resolution

  • Clean/Replace Mass Airflow sensor. Careful when cleaning it. It needs the right cleaner and even then it's easy to damage it.
  • Clean/Replace Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor.
  • Inspect intercooler hose for splits. Replace as required.
  • Check the turbocharger mechanical condition and operation.
  • Clear the DTCs and test for normal operation.
