All Terrain Tyres
From DISCO4.COM Knowledge Base
All Terrain tyres (ATs) blend the on-road virtues of road-biased tyres (such as grip and handling) with the added strength, protection, ability and safety of off-road tyres.
Compared to stock road tyres, All Terrain tyres have a more aggressive tread pattern and wider shoulders, accompanied by reinforced tread lugs for maximum off-road prowess. ATs are generally stronger and more durable than road tyres, giving the tyres a greater life-span.
Advantages of All Terrain tyres
- Greater off-road ability than stock road tyres
- Strong shoulders and sidewall for extra confidence both on and off-road
- Perfect tyre for all year round - no need to change to a winter tyre
- Road noise is minimal compared to Mud Terrain tyres
- Often no more expensive than road tyres
- Long life-span, often around 40k miles
Disadvantages of All Terrain tyres
- Fuel economy can weaken by around 2 MPG depending on tyres
- Some users have reported a very slight increase in road noise on faster roads
- Weaker performance in mud than Mud Terrain tyres due to less appropriate tread pattern
- Less control and poorer handling in some on-road conditions
