Road Tyres

Road-biased tyres are comparatively 'smooth' and feature a thin and flat tread design. They are designed for maximum on-road performance and as a result handle and corner more potently than All Terrain or Mud Terrain tyres. On-road they have maximum grip due to a high proportion of rubber being in contact with the road surface at all times. Fuel economy is at its highest with road tyres on, and extra road noise from tyres should be minimum. Road-biased tyres are still capable off-road, only they are most comfortable and suited on road conditions.
Advantages of Road-biased tyres
- Superior handling and control on road conditions
- Civilised and quiet at high speeds
- Very little road noise from tyres
- Better fuel economy than ATs and MTs on road due to tyre design
- Often the least expensive tyre solution
- Still very capable off-road due to Terrain Response system and traction control electronics
Disadvantages of Road-biased tyres
- Less capable off-road due to tread not being designed for non-road environments
- Less strong and durable than off-road designed tyres
- Shorter life-span than ATs and MTs - approximately 18k depending on tyres.
- Leaves alloys more exposed due to unprotective sidewalls
- Risk of aquaplaning in wet road conditions
