Mud Terrain Tyres
From DISCO4.COM Knowledge Base
Mud Terrain tyres (MTs) are 'butch' and designed for maximum off-road performance. They have a wide, deep tread design with independant lugs for efficient 'self-cleaning' and traction availability on both hard and soft surfaces. The shoulders and sidewall of the tyres are protected by wide lugs making them strong in the most extreme conditions. Mud Terrain tyres are usually very robust and hard wearing meaning that they are protected against damage, tears and punctures. As a result, they have a long life-span, often of up to around 50k miles.
Advantages of Mud Terrain tyres
- Provides grip and traction in extreme conditions
- Strength and durablility gives protection against all elements
- Less aquaplaning in wet road conditions
- Added control in poor driving conditions
- Long life-span
Disadvantages of Mud Terrain tyres
- Fuel economy can weaken by around 5-6 MPG depending on tyres
- Road noise is likely to increase noticably due to tyre design
- Less grip and control on road conditions where a road-biased tyre would excel
- More expensive than both Road-biased and All Terrain tyres
- Risk of slightly reduced road comfort due to harder tyres
