G3Z Im pretty sure it is fuse 36 on the internal fuse board - glove box
Can anyone tell me where the 'relay' is re my post above? To clarify when I say is it in the PDC module I mean do I need to change that.. or am i being a dimlow and the relay is just the pdc switch itself (on the dash)??

yeah fuse 36.
There is no relay.
Only a control unit in the boot, on the left side

Quote:Other than above, when i connect front loom I only get fault - 'short to ground' on both front & rear
If you connect a bumper loom (and its new) and suddenly you get short to ground' on both front & rear, then one of the 4 sensors has a short in it.

cheers Pete
I did follow your advice about checking circuit (red/brown) on front loom and taking out sensor one by one but didn't find any real difference in readings so a bit stumped..? could it be its more than one front sensor with a short...do you remember what sort of resistance reading I should be looking for
Couldn't use IID to take live readings as showed inactive when connected
Strange that the rear only works intermittently with fronts disconnected so obviously a problem there too
...driving me insane

resistance check should be between black and brown. Sorry don't know value.
As you have an IID you could disable the fronts by changing the CCF file options (with battery charger connected), unplug the front loom, and then you can consintrate on the rears.
or maybe you already did this

thanks Pete
yeah sorry meant black/brown. no haven't done that so will have a look at rears only. Permanently working rears would do me for now! Thanks again for steer much appreciated

Pete / All
Update on live data read for rear sensors - any thoughts please:
Front loom disconnected
Fault reading - short to ground rear/short to ground front..?? (not connected)
V short beep on ignition - put in reverse handbrake off - turn off pdc switch then press again and keep pressed down for 20seconds = long beep
Rear sensors now work
However, live readings show that the inner sensors activate but both outer sensors stay showing 2.5m... until at 0.6m they spring to life..?
Both outer sensors the issue or module... guess it will be suck it and see, sensors first but will wait for any bright ideas...please!

sounds like you need at least 2 sensors.
Could be something else going on though if you are getting fault codes after clearing them

Looks like its something else
2 new rear outer sensors - now a solid long tone on ignition and flashing switch. No option to re-set via switch that I could do with the partially functioning outer sensors...
I tried re connecting the front sensors and change ccf back to both front & rear - still same
One thing I have noticed on live values looking at the front when they are either connected or not connected - is that it states the 'front sounder' is continually active...? No sound at all ( I see the rear sounder switches from inactive to active when it sounds).
Could it be i need a new sounder - there isn't a separate front sounder is there?

great point - yes I do so that works fine then i suppose
I realise now the PDC sends signal via CAN to the front instrument cluster speaker.. are we coming to the module itself now .. hopefully not too expensive I've seen wildly different prices for modules
Its a long time ago but I do remember the PDC sounder putting out some strange sounds before packing in - mainly from rear I think - bit like a comedy electronic/tuning in a radio up and down sound. Again probably hard to determine source of problem but just for info

I think you should disable and disconnect the fronts again.
And then consider this list:
1) One or both the new sensors are faulty. Things seam to have got worse. Swap one at a time and see.
2) One of the remaining 2 sensors are faulty. Try swapping in (one at a time) the old sensors that don't register until 0.6m. (these are worth keeping for fault finding)
You need to prop your rear bumper on buckets or something, and get swapping lots of combinations (write it down or video ) until you get an improvement.

I’ve looked at the front speaker active and rear speaker active on a working system.
They work differently.
The front one just seams to mean the front sensors are active and a noise could be made if object detected.
The rear will change if the speaker is making a noise and when they are enabled

Pete thanks for the continued support
Yes that seems to fit with PDC front/rear speaker readings
Not carried out the rear sensor swaps fully as yet but an update and further question as follows:
Initially swapped the 2 new outer sensors back to old ones - can now do the rear re-set via the PDC switch. However, slight difference now is no live data from any rears (and i think rear speaker says active - but no sound..?!?. It works because I get the fault beeps and a long beep on re-set)
Anyway, above strangeness aside, could you or anyone let me know where to get new rear sensors that are satisfactory and work please before I do the full rear swap experiment.
I am very suspect of the sensors I have bought so far - having paid a bit extra for "valeo" ones none of which seem to have worked (I bought one a year or so ago and swapped through all positions with no joy plus the 2 recent ones )
If I'm going to have the bumper off yet again I'd rather have 4no reliable new sensors to hand to be honest (maybe a big re-think if I would have to pay for Land Rover ones mind you..)
Many thanks
Steve

The ones I have purchased (4) are cheap ones from ebay in 2016. One failed in 2019
I hedged my bets and used 2 sellers at the time
I purchased 1 (cheap) in June'20 from ebay with a lifetime warranty. But I havn't tried it yet
