It's time for Oil Pump, HPF Pump and Belts again |
|
Hi all,
My disco is now on 111k miles and it has had three timing belts since new. Last one three years ago.
I really like the car so I was thinking about getting the Oil Pump, HPF Pump and timing belt done as well as a mega flush and also general service.
The belts are a little beyond me so I wondered if anyone could recommend someone to do the work for me?
The last independent I deal with I could not read the receipt and they did not take a couple of photo's when the work was done so I was a little miffed about it, they also charged £740 for the pleasure.
I'm in Sussex so any recommendations except Elliot Engineering would be good. I've had a quote for the three at £1295 in VAT and £305 for the gearbox, does that sound ok?
The oils I'll do myself.

Blimey that's expensive, I think you need my guy John he recently sorted my problem car out and just last week did Ashley's d3 which required a new hpfp rear belt and tensioner.
I think the labour charge was £350 and Ashley supplied his own parts.
If you want his number drop me a PM.

Whoever you get to do the oil pump, ask them to measure (and film) the oil pressure before and after when hot. It's always good to have a reference to see if there's an improvement.
Don't forget to make sure they fit an OE pump. Joe

You dont need to measure the pump pressure, just time the light to go out, old pump's normally around 3 to 4 seconds, badly worn over 5 second's.
A new pump the light should go out almost instantly, even seen the lights go out when when cranking the engine with a new pump fitted.

Ok so I had my cam belt, oil pump, AUX belt and HPF belt done. Also gearbox oil change and new steel sump.
I asked the garage to take photo's of the process which they did. Interesting they put the car back together again send me the photo and said they have not changed the oil pump because it was the upgraded one.
It was not, so and good for the garage, they took the car back yesterday and took everything off again and fitted a new oil pump to the car. with photo's.
Little bit annoying but done in the end.
I always ask for photo's these days and also the old parts back, which were also supplied to me.
I just need to do a quick oil service this weekend new tyres next week and that should be it for a few thousand miles till the next oil change.
Hopefully with 111k on the clock "Larry Jnr" will last another couple of years.

Frustrating!
Out of interest how many seconds from starting until the oil pressure light goes off?
Must stop buying shiny toys....
