Have you tried the 3rd button on the remote.

Most seem to have this set to open the tailgate and works when mine
gets a little sticky (must attend to this next year) and a fiddle to open withg the handle.

Make sure it is really shut, top and bottom, both sides.

Repeatedly lock (two presses) and unlock without trying tailgate.

Shove it shut while pressing switch in tailgate.

Look up on the forum how to change the switch. (Ford one is reported much cheaper than LR.)

Or it could be the cable, probably is if sudden failure.

Cheers to you both. It's opened now! Maybe the 3rd button did it I'm not sure. I'll give it the once over in the dry if that occurs.
Cheers again.

Latch could be on its way out, if so fix it now as it's a lot harder when you cannot open it, another common fault on the D3 Thumbs Up

Is it a big job? Will a good spray of WD40 help out?

Cheers

No, WD40 won't sort it - your issue is either the switch or a tired actuator (or a bad connection).

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic99648.html

Not a big job at all. Suggest you replace both the actuator and the latch while you're there because it's all much easier if you get it done before it leaves your boot stuck. Thumbs Up

Mine had this issue while in the care of my best mate. Big thanks to Gumtree 4x4 in Sussex for fixing it super quickly yesterday! They replaced a broken actuator, and replaced the other actuator at the same time as it looked worn.

The tailgate was all back to normal since I posted this until yesterday!!

When it's closed it starts to click for maybe half dozen times. Anyone an idea which exact part may be at fault and the fix please?

Cheers as always.

Sounds like the issues a lot of the folks above have talked about, either the cable end has broken or the actuator has worn out.

I recently had this happen to me, inconveniently at the end of a 1000 mile trip that included having some large and heavy metal tool boxes transported in the back area of my LR3. I had to work around the boxes but in the end was able to get it open. When it's locked shut it's a lot harder to remedy, the method I used involved drilling into the tailgate to access the broken cable. There is a video on youtube I used as a reference along with a few threads on here.

If you can get the tailgate to open one more time so you can work on it it would become a much easier job.

Good luck!

Well, there's been many posts regarding fixing this problem but I have never heard of anyone drilling into the tailgate before so that's a first. Rolling Eyes
