powerful uk d4 style grille chrome turning green?
Hi all, i have a powerful uk d4 style front grille on my d3, its chrome middle withe java black outer.
Issue is the chrome is starting to go green i have chrome polished it and its seems to be getting worse any ideas what i can do to stop this happening?
I do live by the sea but would've thought it should last longer than 19 months!

The "chrome" is only a very thin layer of chrome colour paint, Polish / cutting paste etc is making it worse cutting through to the primer and plastic below.

Thanks for the tip, just a bit shocked that the chrome started to go at around a year old seems very poor quality paint, looks like I'll have to get it repainted or get a new one and clear coat it before fitting!

If it's turning green there is very probably a thin copper layer below the chrome coating and it will be this that is starting to go green with verdigris, which happens when copper is exposed to the elements.
It's very standard practice to first have a copper flash for the chrome to adhere to during manufacture.
The top chrome coating was applied too thinly and does sound like a cheap job in my opinion. Mods:
