Replacing the Steering Rack - anybody got a "how to"?
I'm considering changing my Steering Rack and would love to see/learn more about the job before I dive in.....

Noises when turning sharp at low speeds, steering wheel wobbles when off roading in extended, clicking noises when moving the steering wheel with the engine off. Swing arms, ARB bushes and track rods changed. Tracking totally sorted, tyre pressures good and rims clear of mud, lol56 plate Zermatt Silve

I did change my one a few years ago ,must have been easy enough cos I can't remember any hastle with it ,probibly both front wheels off on axle stands to let you get at the track rod ends and everything was accesable from underneeth , remove the bolt from the u/j and the steering colum will push up enough to let the rack come out to the side ,remove the oil pipes ,can't remember if the had o-rings or where they screwed in ,incase you need new ones ,and you will need oil to refill and prime before starting the engine

It's easy enough on the TDV6. Pipes are held in with a 10mm clamp bolt, rack held on with 2 bolts, undo TRE's, and it slides out the OS My D3 Build Thread

Cheers for the replies guys
I've just finished inspecting the rack and it's fine . The extra noises were coming from the steering column UJ, which has failed, so I'm going to be repacking that instead, (cheaper!! )56 plate Zermatt Silve
