For those thinking of selling
Its been a while so just a quick update.
Since i sold my d3 I've missed it immensely. Id done everything to it and to my eyes it was perfect, but my search for better found me making a big mistake.
I have since owned a d4, very briefly and a ffrr with i never liked from day 1. I then brought a mondeo and I'm now in a rr evoque.
Evo is a good car but i still miss the d3 of all the cars I've owned it was the best all round car.
I don't want another one, i want my one, if that makes sense.
So moral of the story, the grass isn't always greener on the other side and an upgrade isn't always an upgrade.
SteveYou remind me of a younger me, not much younger mind...perhaps even a little older!

Very sorry to hear that.
Coincidentally, we took out a 4.4 V8 FFRR last weekend and cut the test drive short. I'm sure it's a great car and I can see why people like it, but it didn't suit us like the Disco does; they really are surprisingly different cars.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄

My view on the FFRR is that it's like a stately home.
Nice to visit and look around, but do you really want to live in one?
Agree, for it's time the D3 was the best (even over the D4)....... always on the road less travelled 🚧

I also mis my disco but after almost 5 years with it it was time for a change my 07 3.6 v8 rrff vogue SE is amazing , I've had it 6 months now and still love it but I'm sure I will have another disco at some point , the disco is far more usable for work and little trips away camping etc , but for now I'm enjoying the rrff -------------------------------------------------
if you cant hold on dont let go , it ill come in handy for something even if you never use it.

I suppose so Del, but no way of finding out. Having said that she had 130k on her when I sold her in March 2009.

I can depress you further...
I had an 05 HSE that I paid £12,500 for in about 2012? (whenever I joined this site really). It was mint with perfect history. I put expedition rack on it, ladder etc. £800 worth of General Grabbers. Blah blah.
Owned it for less than a year and in the "divorce diet carve up" because it was the "Leader of the Opposition's" name on the log book. She got it.
She sold it for £8,000 almost immediately.
I was crying..
But someone had a steal!
Edit. Further to this I also at the time had a v8 XK X150 shape and also a little burgundy Z4.
Guess which car WAS the one in my name and I ended up with??
D3 07 SE - still going strong
D3 07 HSE - gone to car heaven
FL1 - gone to Romania
D3 05 HSE - gone to a divorce diet
D1 V8 manual - gone but not forgotten
RR Classic - gone to car heaven
Jeeps, Lexus, X-trails... Too many to name..

I've just gone on the .gov MOT website - my old D3 passed her last MOT in early September after initial failure on a rear number plate bulb failure
Now on 132K, I sold at 97K, so done 35K in 6.5 years - easier life than when with me
Previous MOT's - failure on Rear Brake Pipe corrosion and some advisories on Steering Column float, Brake pad wear and tyre wear.
I must admit, I did look after that car, only issue I had was failed compressor due to software issues (very early on), leaking air-con (O ring missing, again, very early on) EGR's failed and lower front suspension arms (wear and tear)
So, hopefully, she is still looking after who owns her now and still many more years left in her (she will be 12 in March)

I know what you mean, I'm on my second D4, which is great, but the best one was the one I kept the longest (4 years) which was my last 09 D3 XS:

I think I had this one just how it was meant to be, which is partially why MY16 D4 looks quite similar

Gosh I hope you haven't been offroading it?
All joking aside..
Bearing in mind I have one specifically for off roading, trekking and expeditions, I often wonder about when people describe their own vehicles are "lovingly cared for" and "no expense spared" and then use it hard - to be fair - for what it was designed for!
It's a bit like saying
"I get my suits and shirts professionally cleaned once a week"
and then use them for fist fighting and rowdy rugby matches and the like.
It makes me wonder if an unused but well serviced "Surrey Mum Chelsea Tractor" is actually a better buy D3 07 SE - still going strong

The d3 does everything, its economical for a big truck, its durable yet has an element of luxury, it can go off road easily and it can be abused, gets muddy etc etc.
Yes it has faults but i think ill be hard pressed to find another car i like better. The 2010 ff i had was better in terms of luxury but it wasn't as good as the d3 every where else. The very fact it was plush meant i was more afraid to get it dirty, cleaning leather door cards is harder than cleaning plastic ones etc.

The best car i ever owned was my D3 called freddie. The car i had for the longest ever. It saw us through 3 births and some of the best holidays we have ever had. It was an S spec so compared to my current at the opposite end of the spectrum but it brought on the biggest permagrin by far. I let it go for 6.5k and totally regret it. If anyone has it i would like to buy it back
This is me sat having a cuppa with him with a failing TC and multiple issues ten minutes before coasting him into the dealers to pickup a new D4
