Bowel cancer screening kits.
Or - more specifically - the instructions which come with them. In Scotland, these are sent to anyone over the age of 50. The instructions refer to getting a sample of 'poo'. Please - we are grown up and dealing with a life-threatening illness. We are big enough to know the medical terms of 'stool' or 'faeces'.

While I would tend to agree that we should be capable of using slightly more technical terminology, I guess that this is one of these ones where the language used has to be driven by the lowest common denominator.
While overall uptake of the tests is good (67% returned), this hides a variation between nearly 78% for "least deprived" women and down to 50% for men in the most deprived category. This is despite the fact that the people most likely to have a positive result are men from deprived communities. So the more they can do to make it easy for folks to understand it all, the better.
What "gets my goat" is that heart disease is the biggest killer, yet we don't do any routine preventive monitoring. The whole population checked-in for covid vaccination and the most at-risk group for heart disease are getting a flu vaccine each winter. That's a golden opportunity for a quick, automated health check - Height, weight, blood pressure, blood sugar, blood lipids. The technology exists, the will doesn't seem to. I guess they just don't want all the extra "business" that would come from the diagnoses, yet we could save both lives and money by catching all this early.Previously:

Dentists! Just back from my check up and a very small repair to a chipped tooth requiring no injection or anything. All in all, 20 mins work and a £200 bill.

I don't currently have a dentist. My dentist cancelled two of my appointments over three years then wrote to me saying I'd been dropped off the NHS list for 'not attending for three years'. They couldn't even offer me private option as they were 'full'.
Trying to get in SWMBO's dentist on back of her being a long-standing client but that is a no-go at moment and I am on a waiting list but this will only be as a private client

Wait until you see the price of implants.... I've told my dentist no.
That said I went for removal which didn't go well. So I had it removed under my private health insurance - cost £1600+ plus for 20mins in total including the consultation. Nuffield charged £1220 and the NHS doctor £2 x 200. That said he was a ninja and I opted for it to be done under a local so I could go back to work
Combination of Covid and my dentist going to prison.
She found it pays better than having a chair in a "normal" practice
She also likes not being restrained by "normal" practice policies* and/or what people can afford - she can just get on with doing dentistry.
* which (from what I've seen at a number of local places) involves "up selling" treatments.

M&S Deliveries... just ordered 3 hampers and extras for each of my family at £87.00 a pop, "free delivery" stated in each of the item descriptions and yet have had £3.99 added to each order for delivery... not a huge sum but it's not "free delivery"..
Add to that they clearly state on the front of their website "Orders placed by 3pm on the 23rd December for next day delivery" and yet half of the three orders will not be delivered until the 28th December... no outlying postcodes, no unusual locations just service... and to top this off I've been hold for the last 50 minutes with their "customer service" trying to find out what is happening... FFS....I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Nige, when you've finished with M&S, try convincing Baxters of Speyside why they really should deliver to a Moray address without charging a Highland surcharge! Previously:

These Highland delivery charges really do get my goat but even worse when coming from a local company… they try and convince me that I’m “in the Highlands” so I ask them if London and Birmingham are the same place as they are the same distance away as the Highlands are! the country has gone mad I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Moronic Scottish alcohol sales times. I get to Tesco Inverness nice and early to beat the rush but can’t finish checking out until 10am. Like I’m going to be swigging MacLaren Vale VC at half nine in the car park! It’s enough to drive you to drink!!
And that’s me a few minutes nearer to getting out of here!
