Just had confirmation from WD that they are paying my £600 bill for a new rotary gear selector and fitting, makes my £1300 premium seem very reasonable and its only the first month of the warranty! D4 2014

Had it twice with mine (2015, 71000 miles) first time had it recovered to a friend's garage. His LR man cleared a fault and it got me by for a few days until I got a new one and had it fitted and all was well for a couple of months. Second time it happened when I pulled up outside my place of work. Car was in stop/start mode, I pulled up and before I could put in 'P' and switch the engine off the rotary selector turned itself to 'P' and went down. Car was showing 'Gearbox fault' and wouldn't go into gear, managed to get my mate to come out and clear the fault and it's now ok for the time being.
Looking back, when I bought the car the seller advised me to switch off stop/start mode as it was a pain in the and I just took his word for it, wonder if he was hiding something? Apart from that and a couple of other common minor niggles I'm loving it.

Had a bit of a moment this evening coming out from a shop. Engine powered up, selector rose up but couldn't shift it out of park. Didn't want to force it. Shut everything down a few times, no joy. Called the warranty / recovery crowd and they were sending a flat bed to pick it up and put into storage until it could be looked at on Monday (hopefully).
Then tried it one more time and everything fine. Have used it a few times to run a few errands and get home.
Is it possibly a one off or is it on the way out. Anyone have an isolated incident or is it always the start of a failure?

Our car is blocking a car park in Wendover at the moment, stuck in reverse!? Rotary selector is up and won't turn, dash says R and the car won't start. I'm guessing a failed interlock that sprung back and locked the rotary knob. RAC is on the way to recover now
It's been a bit dicky moving out of P recently a couple of times which I should have taken as a warning, but the fatal mistake probably was me advising my wife to turn the car off and back on again, possibly if she had left the engine running then we might have got the dial moved... -------------------------------------------------------------------

So our car was recovered to the local indy who charged the battery, cleared all the faults (which I thought I'd done with my IDTool but clearly not thoroughly enough) and it started working again. He recommended replacing the battery as it was original and the S/S had stopped working 2 years ago. So far all good... The WD cover letter has stayed in the filing cabinet....
The service from RAC was genuinely awful, they fobbed us off all afternoon. Eventually, 8 hours after the initial request, a low loader turned up. After I'd managed to stop him dragging the car sideways across the car park, I commiserated with him on what an awful day he'd appeared to have had trying to find us, he said he'd just started his shift half an hour before and we were his first job -------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree. Ive just replaced mine. I have stripped the old unit and made it so that the interlock can be operated manually by pulling a wire and disengaging the locking mechanism. As it is a plug and play item i will keep it in the car in case the replacement fails.
