No blower fan/ no power going to fan. Low power going to BCM |
|
Hi Everyone,
Just wondering if anyone would have any ideas on my issue.
I just brought my D3 and love it. There are a few small issue but who doesn't like a project.
The issue I'm fighting with now is the climate control. It is just the base model with the 3 dials and 3 buttons.
I only notice that I can not turn fan on. When driving I get some air to the vents and I can change the temp and direction of the air so other two dials work. But the air coming through isn't the fan just air pushing through from outside.
I checked the fan conector and no power is going to it idle/driving. I check power to the blower control module and it's only getting about 2 -2.09 volt driving/idle And when I turn the fan to max I get 0.0 volts. I put a 12v power source to fan and it is working. I have swapped the relays aka washer relay with the fan relay. No joy.
I feel like I'm going crazy and not sure where to start next. I have read to change the blower control module but if it's not getting correct voltage I would have thought the problem wouldn't be there? And should it great the correct voltage then it should work fine? I am dreading that it is a loose/broken wire.
I have ran the diagnostics test (hold 2 buttons down and turn key) the ECON flashes a bit but then just stops.
If anyone could throw up some advice or guidance I would be very greatful.
Thanks
Joe

well the basic model seams to be the same as the higher spec with regargs to fan control
The white wire to the fan should have 12v on with the ignition on (if the relay and fuse are working)
large fuse 12 under bonnet.
The black wire between the fan and speed controller should be 0v ish (for max speed)
A red wire from the speed controller is grounded.

Hi Pete,
Thank your for the reply.
So just checked again there.
White wire =2.04 volts.
Black wire = 2.04 volts. 0 volts at max
Red wire from sensor 2.07 volts
Not quite sure what this means

Isthatwith ignition on ?
I’d check the fuse and relay again
Is your other test lead on chassis metal ?

Yeah with ignition switch on.
Just switched relays again. No joy. I've just noticed that the demist doesn't light up. So maybe I am missing a fuse to check.

Just ran a fused cable from battery to white wire fan works perfectly. Demister still doesn't light but but I can control speed of fan. Which feels like this could be more of a loose contention maybe?

with the ignition on, try removing and re fitting the fan relay. If it clicks then that is good.
Check pin 30 of the relay base is live. (probably will be if it clicks as above)
If both those are ok....... Yes you probably want to run a new (thick) wire in.
Disconnect the battery, lift the fusebox up.
Look under the relay base. The wire starts there as brown/red and then changes to white at a connector somewhere. (C2996L). Could well be the connector at fault, but finding it is difficult. (probably close to the fan)
I think in the base of the fusebox you can run a new cable into the car to the white wire

Thanks Pete!
I think running a new wire is probably the best fix. I just cant figure out where the 2.07 volts are coming from.
Will attack it tomorrow night and will let you know how I get on!
Hopefully it sorts it then I can move on to the other project of replacing expansion tank due to faulty sensor ...
