New to me D4 - Wind noise
Hi all,
Just picked up a new to me D4 and so far (1 Day) loving it and its a nice upgrade form the D3. However I have noticed a wind noise when on motorways. It sounds like pass side but cant see anything, but then again not had a proper look yet. Is there any known issues or things to check?

Hi there,
Well i'm going to ask the obvious but have you got cross roof bars on?
The other things that can amplify wind noise are those third party wind deflectors above the side windows (if you have them fitted)?
Also, are any of the wheel arch fairings loose?Discovery 4 HSE late 2015 Euro6

We currently have three Discos sat at the top of the drive - an SE D3, an HSE D4 and an SE D4.
The HSE is by far the noisiest of the three which we have always put down to it being the only one with a sunroof.Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Thats a very good point, but no I have not moved the rails from my old D3 to the D4 yet and it does not have wind deflectors. the sound is like a window is not quite closed.

Ah OK, maybe a seal has gone on one of the windows or there is something from stopping a window from going fully up? My MY16 HSE D4 is super-quiet on Motorways so it does sound like (no pun) that there is a window-based issue. Grab a chum to sit in the back while on the Motorway/dual carriageway to see if they can hear which one is playing-up. Discovery 4 HSE late 2015 Euro6

Check the A pillar trim, they can work loose if not fitted back correctly if they've been off for some reason (ie new windscreen)... they need new clips on them if you do put them back... or lots of Sikaflex I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

I agree about loose A-pillar trim.
But also I had PRETTY BAD noise from an ill-fitting sunroof glass a few years back - almost a ROARING noise at high speed.
Test it by opening the sunroof, drape a thin cloth over the glass, stretched as cleanly as practical in all directions, then close again trapping the cloth all around the perimeter of the glass.
If the noise is from sunroof then it will diminish greatly or vanish with the cloth in place.
Also bear in mind something I've learned over and over again - the acoustics in a moving car are completely bizarre and misleading. Sounds can APPEAR to come from all over the place and the TRUE source of a click/bump/whoosh is often found WAY off the direction your ears tell you to look !!!!!

Thanks all, got my sister to drive it while i looked and it sounds like the sunroof. but I cant see any issues or feel any air coming into the cabin. will have a look at the weekend and try the cloth trick.
Also now got a clunk on turns, so i will post up a new thread about that one

Know when I couldn’t find a wind noise from my cabin I used a smoke machine to find it was my drivers door , adjusted the catch which resolved it
Preferred using a smoke machine over smoke pellets as it didn’t leave a smell

how do you remove and re fitt the rear wheel arch fairings ?
and what clips are they ?

Its important to get the right clips as they are subtlety different from each other .

Also check that the windows are actually closed and one is not stopping short.
A strip of paper folded over a partly open window, close it and then how easy is it to remove? Compare with the other windows.
Similarly check how tight the door closes against the seals, again a strip of paper can be a guide.
I had to look a a freinds car with a similar problem and the top of the frame was bent out slightly. Closer inspection show some damage to the paint and we thought that someone had levered the frame out to get to the locking pin.A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an MG5 EV

Plus 1 to the door rubber trim, personally for that I used some chalk so after opening the door can see if there are any gaps
