Not today but on Sunday spent the day out in Kielder forest helping out on the Kielder 4x4 Safari raising money for The Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team.

Changed all of the interior, number plate and puddle light lamps for LED.
Also went for a ride across my brother-in-laws land just to test the HDC and low range gearbox. Now it's not the Andes, but for someone who is in their first 4x4 and is not hugging the road it was a first.

Well, actually it was yesterday, but I put a new seat base foam in the drivers seat as mine was a bit 'saggy' at 80k miles.
Bought the base from Dan at Duckworths, got a pair of angled hog ring pliers, a packet of hog rings & a can of heat resistant upholstery glue off 'the bay'. Total outlay about £65.
Discovered that removing the 4 screws under the seat frame on a D4 is perhaps not as easy as on a D3 if the posts I'd read on here are anything to go by...
Rear two screws come out easily from rear passenger footwell. Front ones are a different story, on the outside is a large black plastic module on an angled bracket which makes getting at the screw above it impossible & necessitates removing the bracket to get the module out of the way - something that could easily be done by a double jointed 5 year old with small hands but took me a lot longer... Incidentally for anyone interested this module has FoMoCo on it.
Inside screw is also obscured by a smaller module & whilst I could get a Torx key on it I couldn't get sufficient purchase to undo it - the key kept slipping out and I didn't want to damage the screw head. Ended up removing the bracket with that module on too - it's Volvo by the way!
With seat base out removing the cover was actually very easy, hog rings were cut with side cutters & the heated seat element came off easily with only some cleaning up needed where the foam on the outside bolster had broken down and fell apart rather than simply peeling off.
Seat base all went back together easily enough & I have to say was less hard work than the seat bases in my 90 which I replaced last autumn.
The hard bit was getting the seat base back into the frame, lining up screws you can't see & then putting the brackets & modules back in.
I now have a lovely firm & comfortable seat base but am suffering today from bruised ribs where I was leaning on door sills & sore fingers thanks to all the rough edges on the various seat pressings.
Overall though a very worthwhile bit of maintenace that I'd recomend to anyone thinking their D4 seat is perhaps not as comfortable as it should be.

Well, technically I've not done anything in my Discovery as I don't pick it up until April 30th, but I've just bought my Disco4.com window sticker to keep me going in the mean time.
Roll-on the 30th so I've got something to stick the sticker too!

Left for work early yesterday morning, so had a little play at the docks, no boats, nowadays it's home to a wind turbine. There is a large mound of earth that is used as a vantage point to look across the water, it's good fun to drive up.

Cleaned and polished to get rid of bramble rash. Used autoglym resin polish and then ultra deep gloss liquid wax.

Took it for a run and couldn't resist stopping in at the burger joint at the Tay Bridge. They do a mean bacon & cheeseburger.
