My 6 year old Disco 3's battery ran flat after I pumped the trailer's tyres without running the negine (stupid!...) and I then tried to start it on leads from my Jag's battery. Engine cranked twice and stopped. Warning lights on! Gave up and charged battery over 24 hrs, now fully charged. All fuses seem OK.
However engine runs for a couple of secs and stops. Shows faults:
- ENGINE SYSTEM FAULT
- HDC FAULT
- FOLLOWING WARNING LIGHTS ON: AIRBAG SRS, BRAKE SYSTEM, SDC - ETC Amber, BATTERY/OIL PRESSURE
My local Land Rover garage (not a LR dealership) want to replace the ECU at a cost of £600 inc. labour. The breakdown guy says I should send the ECU to BBA REMAN to repair. The dealership says it needs to be towed 30 miles to them for disgnostics; it might just need to be re-flashed.
What should I do? Thanks for helping a new member!

give the battery another 24 hrs charge ...then remove the battery cables and join them together ( the leads not the battery ) for about 20 seconds ....reconnect the battery and try it .
The battery cables wont reach each other ...so you need something top make them reach ..i use an ratchet and extension bar . G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Thanks Wiggs.
I did as you said, re-charged battery for 24hrs with Ctek charger, connected +ve and -ve leads of car for 20 secs and then reconnected battery.
STILL SHOWING SAME FAULTS AS ABOVE.
Any other suggestions, mate?

Depending on what CTEK charger you used, it may be that it won't charge a flat battery in 24h. If you have the instructions for the charger check them and see how long your charger takes to charge a flat battery (my CTEK takes something like 72h to do a 90 amp battery). The smaller CTEK chargers are more conditioners than chargers. Some just won't get a 90-110 amp battery where it needs to be. Personally, I'd stick it on a powerful charger, do what Wiggs said, and start over.
Of course, you may have an ass kickin' CTEK charger, in which case your problem is elsewhere. PAGODA

if she fires up at first and then dies
look like ecu failure ok
dont know if garage u were using read the fault codes
i assume yes if they advice you to change it
i ve seen myself 2 ecu failures caused by crossing the jump leads on jump start
one on disco one on sport
to buy new or fix its up to you really (time vs budget ?)
in my cases ended in fitting new ones

Thanks Guys.
My Ctek (Multi CX3600) is good for batteries up to 120Ah, but it will take up to 27 hrs for a full bulk charge. I put it back on and is showing charging, so will leave it until battery is fully charged and try WIGS advice again.
The hazzard lights don't flash. If ECU has failed, has anyone got experience of ECU Repair outfits like BBA Reman or Bluestreak??

How did the story end and how did you solve it? I have similar situation, no engine light, no ENGINE FAULT on the cluster, camshaft position sensor range/performance fault after couple of cranks. As I said engine cranks but do not starts it started two times with standard version of ECU before ECU was updated and one time after ECU was updated to newer LR version. Camshaft position sensor changed two times, measured with osciloscope, new leads straight from camshaft position sensor to ECU with no success. What else could it be?
Thanks

I had the Disco towed to Harwoods dealership in Chichester and they re-flashed the ECU at no charge, which resolved the problem. Hah, it also solved a gremlin on the cruise control, so make sure they use the latest software version.
Cheers
