Winters here - Heated windscreen problem |
|
Has anyone any experience on repairing heated windscreens?
My screen clears fully on the passenger side, but on the drivers side its a bit hit n miss, leaving about 40% unheated.
Thanks.

1) In your right hand, tightly grip a house brick
2) Carefully smash said brick against windscreen
3) Call insurance company and pay excess on new windscreen
I don't believe they can be repaired easily. Mine is the same as yours; passenger side clears nicely but takes another few minutes for the driver's side to catch-up. Never used to do that before I got a large stone chip on the passenger's side. I suspect that has something to do with it...

First of all make sure no one is watching, choose a convenient time when you don't need the vehicle for a few hours and it's not raining
Mine has one strip that does not clear in the middle of the drivers viewing area. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Likewise... I have a large patch that is unheated right in front of the drivers face. Think it is time for a new one... Does it need to be smashed to be replaced?!

In all seriousness, I don't think it needs to be smashed but I think you need to be able to demonstrate it's beyond reasonable repair. I'm sure an Autoglass monkey is going to smell a rat if he detects that the screen has been struck by a heavy piece of oblong-shaped masonry.
The brick is probably going too far but something like a large metal bolt hitting it is probably more realistic. Make sure you cover your paintwork to prevent any nasty rebounds.
