Long delay before power comes in |
|
Hi, I pulled off a bit quick today and not a lot happened, as I had pulled onto a busy dual carriageway I kept my foot to the floor and crawled along at 5 mph for 4 or 5 seconds which seemed a lot longer before the revs shot up and the car launched off, all the way back the car has been almost undriveable when pulling away with a complete loss of power until it suddenly takes off. Driving on the motorway everything is fine, it pulls normally around 70mph, but if the revs drop it takes ages to pick up again, my helpful dealer can't look at it till next week, doesn't have a courtesy car for two weeks and said it was probably a software issue and would be ok to drive. Has anyone any ideas? There are no warning lights or untoward noises and the weird thing is that once the power does come in it still flies along. I drove around 200 miles and filled up the tank in case it was a fuel issue.

Initial thoughts are one or both EGR valves. Get them blanked rather than replace them. Best option. Buy a BAS blanking kit from Bell Autos.

It would be nice to know mileage & service history.
Many of us have had a remap by Pete Bell of Bell Auto Services to cure this problem - search the forum and:-

Don't bother replacing them. They'll only fail again and your D3 will effectively be passively smoking as long as you still have EGR Valves fitted. They are the work of the devil.

I'd stake my money on a duff EGR valve. If it doe it again, instaed of keeping you foot down, lift off and re-plant your right boot. Sometimes helps, but fix is blank the EGR's off. As has been said, less than a tenner for blanking plates, and approx 1hrs work (can be done in less )

Hi Brian
I have a simular problem on mine at the moment, same simptoms but also have a fault flashing up on dash "transmision reducing trac" fault and HDC fault.
I had the Torq-converter changed a week ago- had the cattle grid effect issue. was not happy with it when returned, cause when you lift foot of accellerator it almost nose dive, release, nose dive, release ( thats without touching the brake pedale)
So its going back in tomorrow
The mechanic suggest it might be a comm/link issue between brakes/traction control and gearbox.
Please keep us up-dated on to the results of blanking the EGR's please

Hi, good news, I've just fitted the blanking kit and the car is running perfectly, the instructions were really easy to follow and it only took a couple of hours from start to finish, the only thing I had to do was to fit washers above the blanking plates as my bolts were a bit corroded further down and I think the blanks were a bit thinner. The inside of the butterfly section was thick with black gunk which I cleaned out although bizarrely the map sensor did not have any muck on it at all. I know people say this all the time but really if I can fit this then anyone can, the hardest part was stopping my stupid German shepherd running off with any bits I laid on the drive!

Good news. Well done. Did mine a year or so ago and had no trouble since.

Cheers Steve, I've done about 150 miles today and it all runs fine, I can't see much improvement in mpg or performance so I'm thinking mine failed suddenly and were probably working ok up until Thursday.
