Another 3.0 TDV6 gone bang :-(
Hi guys,
Unfortunately, 5 months after taking ownership (private sale) my MY2010 3.0 TDV6 RRS went bang yesterday morning on my way to work.
Absolutely gutted. At first it started with a little rumble and within a few seconds, it turned into a hell of a racket with the vehicle shaking. I immediately pulled over and stopped the engine as all I could think of was the damned crank on these engines. As I was on double yellows, I restarted the engine and pulled into a car park a few metres down the road.
The noise was exactly the same as experienced by Del on his TDV6 back in July 2017...

Thanks Mikey. I think mine is the TDV6 and not the SDV6, or is it the same?

96k Dusty. I thought she had plenty of miles left in her. Bodywork was immaculate, as was the interior, FSH. It was a well looked after motor.

quite a few years ago I (for I read Mikey ) replaced my TDV6 with one from a breakers, rather than a new one, of course you could always experience the same 10 minutes later, but the one I put in is still going strong quite a few years later.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

When you think of the examples out there (even some LR’s) that have covered spaceship mileage 96k is criminal.
Any motor with full service history suffering engine failure below 100k should have the manufacturer at least making some kind of offer to help ease the pain.
Whilst they might not be charities they can’t keep burying their heads when one of their (very expensive) products suffers such catastrophic failure way before it’s intended shelf life.Discovery 4 HSE

One of the reasons I chopped the D4 at just over 60k. Too many 3.0l lumps failing at lower mileage than I sold mine at. OK, low risk but high consequences and hassle I wouldn’t have wanted. It my exit from LR ownership after 30 years, I won’t be back.

When did this problem first come to light? Did the early d3s have any failures early on? We hear of cars with 15k on with problems.
Did this start happening on release, it seems to be gathering pace wouldn’t you think?

^^ Same here, loved the car but at 9 years old, 116K miles in immaculate condition, only a low rent warranty available and worth c. £12+K, I moved on rather than £12K turning into virtually sweet FA in the blink of an eye.
Also, it never felt really 'right' after I had the Turbo and manifold issues in 2017Now Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.

I agree with you Del - this situation has damaged the JLR marque and the only thing driven away is its own customers.
That JLR hiked the engine price to £12k during this debacle was verging on criminal.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
