Brake Pad Replacement Charges |
|
Vehicle had its 72K service, actually only at 61k, apparently the Pads and rotors need replacing. I have been quoted
Front Pads, Sensors and Rotors - Rear Pads, Sensors, machined existing rears - $1283
All round Pads, Sensors and Rotors - $1553
Is this similar to what you guys are being quoted. Fully franchised Sydney dealership... or any recommendations for a non franchised dealership that can still do the work cheaper without invalidating warranty ??
Thanks

Jim, whilst I haven't got the exact figure, mine were done last month at 62 000 km for around $1450 (pads, rotors and sensors). At a Land Rover dealer - so the quote you have sounds about right.
But of course, mine would be cheaper as it is not a RRS
Note added 30 Dec 2008: I assumed the sensors were replaced but I haven't checked the paperwork. Maybe not, considering all the talk about them being able to be reused. (As soon as I get the paperwork back from the acct. I will advise here.) LeighW

* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

Leigh many thanks, i suppose its the ultra rare fragrant oils they have to use on the RRS's sensitive brake parts rather than grease that puts the price up

sounds ridiculously expensive to me and why sensors, did yours wear out. if not they just get reused and IIRC there is only two. one at the front and one rear. TBH the sensors are a gimmick if you ask me and regular visual checks should be done.

I'm not sure the price is all that bad.
I have bought a set of DBA Cross drilled and vented rotors (2x 4000 series at $250 each and 2x street series for the rear at $160 each) for my son's XR6 Turbo (X-mas present) plus pads and he will be fitting them himself so total without labour...$820.oo plus pads...$ 150 for front and rear...$970 NO labour.
Get a price from a brake place to fit BDA 4000 series drilled and slotted rotors and compare. (even the standard street series are available drilled and slotted which will be less than the 4000series)
You may even find that all that is required is a set of pads...get someone to confirm the disc thickness.
see: www.dba.com.au
and use the search tool for part numbers. They do make 'em for LR3 etc.
Cheers

Had my set of 4 pads replaced at around 40,000 km for $600 (I think). Noticed that the front brake pads started rattling in their calipers when going over bumps though. '06 Disco 3 TDV6 SE Buckingham Blue

I've done just on 80k kms and my dealer recently quoted about $1250 for "the lot" - discs and pads front and rear. The rear rotors were not needed and the job was done for about $930 (can't recall exactly)

I just had all the pads replaced at 90,000 k's - $459.28 fitted (not including rotors) - all work done by the dealer. Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.

Hi,
How come all the replacement rotors and sensors? Sensors can be re used if not damaged, they just clik in and out of the pads when you change them. Disks should only be machined if they get badly scored, warped or badly ridged. Seems a bit like over servicing. I am at 90K's now with no machining, 3 sets of front pads, 1 front sensor, 2 sets of rears 1 rear sensor (Got a stick it the back wheel that damaged the sensor wire). Disks are about 50% from new to minimum thickness.
Ask the mechanic to show you what is wrong before they do the work, I've experienced them ringing me up and telling me things are worn or broken when I know them to be ok. Just thank them and get them to quote, then take your vehicle home and check it yourself. Lots of money to be saved here. Don't get caught over a barrel with a phone call.
Happy new year all

Well work was undertaken Tuesday, all round Pads, Rotors and Sensors, $1449 dollars, but when arriving to pick it up some mixed news:
They found a problem with the boost pump, which required a further 2 day stay whilst they waited for all the parts to arrive, required new master cylinder assembly (a repair kit i think) , boost and pump assemblies.. glad they found it before the warranty is up in 3 months time the symptom is logged as a "Hard Brake Pedal" another Pommie from the darkside

Zilch...mine is going in on Monday for the same thing. I had noticed that the vacuum wasn't holding and the system would "gurgle" when restarting after a short stop, with foot on the brake. All under warranty but only 53K on the clock
IanV...agree. Can't believe rotors need changing just because the pads are worn. That's why pads are designed to wear...

i recently had all rotors, pads, sensors etc replaced at the end of November.
i asked about maching the rotors as I had lips forming, but it wasn't recommended.
Ended up replacing the lot and cost me $1k even.

Its not the pads etc, there is an internal leak in thr system somewhere.
Might pay for everyone to check theirs before they run out of warranty.
Start the engine and put a lot of pressure on the brake pedal,
if the pedal continues to depress then there is a problem.
I think it has been posted before Pete
