Buying an imported D4 5.0 V8 |
|
Just wondered if there were any downsides to buying an imported vehicle? I've seen a Disco 4 5.0 V8 petrol auto for sale, imported from Japan, RHD. Not looking to purchase right now but something I would be potentially interested in doing in future if the D3 was to explode.

You would need to consider the position with regard to London's Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).

My D3 isn't compliant, so I can't be any worse off than I am now
It is technically compliant but I suppose you're right there may be some bureaucratic 'computer says no' situation which prevents an imported vehicle being correctly registered as compliant.

It was the whole import that put me off. Much cheaper and easier to buy a 5.0L RRS or FFRR.

If you’re buying one that has already been imported and tested and has a V5, just double check by entering the registration in the government ULEZ website.
I think it will be compliant. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

This is the one I was looking at - already imported and with reg YJ11 PSN, all checks out on the govt ULEZ checker. though hopefully I won't be in London too much longer anyway.
Thought it could be a pretty cool option one day if the D3 calls it a day, I hadn't realised anyone imported the RHD 5.0 V8 D4 into the UK. Would get rid of crankshaft anxiety

And quicker too, with the big whizzy turny thing strapped to the top of the engine.
A supercharged 5.0 D4 would be an interesting Q-car, however. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Be prepared to change the timing chain tensioners on a MY11, they’re a perishable item…. See https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2015/MC-10104461-9340.pdf. While the TSB mentions up to MY13, the hard truth is that they’re an issue all the way until end of production.
