Can the fuel computer accuracy be adjusted?

As many posts have pointed out, the fuel computer's accuracy is a joke - mine is running up to 15% optimistic and is far and away the most inaccurate of any car I have ever owned.

However, I ran an XC90 for a while and I had it chip tuned by RICA. I quickly noticed that the previously very accurate fuel computer readout was then running about 10% optimistic. The engineers conceded that the upgrade caused this but could only be corrected by restoring the original factory state of tune.

Nevertheless, it does suggest that the software can be manipulated to adjust the fuel computer reading up or down. Has anyone tried this with the D4 and, if so, how can it be done?

Ive seen a lot on here about the mpg being very optimistic.

On MY54 D3 its always been 5% Pessimistic - tank to tank with me doing the calculations!!

More than 5% on my D4 and my D3 was bang on.

My display showed over 37 mpg on my last tankfull when I filled today. The reality was 33.13 mpg:

so both my D3's were about 3-4 MPG higher on the trip comp than actual, and this looks to be about the same on the D4 - no improvement there then Whistle

Mine's consistently about 4 mpg optimistic like Robbie. Over 2 years and 28,000 miles. So it don't get any better.
If it don't fit the third time - try a bigger hammer

I was happy when my long term average dragged its butt over the 26 mark. Considering probably 80 - 90% of that is sitting at 60mph on the motorway it's pretty painful in the wallet. Sad

Still, look on the bright side. At least that 50 tonnes of CO2 it's produced helped give us a nice summer!! Snigger

That's only part of it, I don't usually put in overseas fuel and that's probably 20k miles where it's not been entered. That's prob another £4k in juice. Big Cry Big Cry
