The D3 can actually be reset in the SatNav menu, this is recommended when new tyres are fitted, don't know about D4.It can when others can't,

well after 2 weeks, my D4 is no better MPG than my D3 was. I guess its a matter of hope vs expectation. Given all the bumpf on the 256BHP and 8 speed box being more efficient, then the hope was it would give better MPG, although expectation was that it wouldnt.
Right now, expectation wins

It appears plenty of people disregard the vehicles calculated mpg, so when doing your own calculation how do you measure the mileage

Fill the tank and brim it.
Reset mileage indicator.
Drive for one or two days, or when your tank is empty, whichever comes first.....
Fill the tank and brim it to the same place.
Fill will be in litres, divide by 4.546 to convert to gallons.
Check mileage indicator and divide gallons into mileage shown.
Voila.....MPG!
I do this every time I fill up.....and cry.

What I am getting at is that you do not trust the mpg worked out by the car yet you are willing to trust the mileometer!
I do not know what the computer uses to calculate fuel used, but I would have thought that this part of the mpg equation would be more accurate that the distance travelled:
fuel quantity per injection x no. of injections
Thoughts?

That would only give you fuel used over time.
The milage gauge on mine is accurate, as it was on my D3. Funny when you think about it as the mph over-reads yet the milage counters do not.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Ah, well it already uses the metered fuel over milage traveled. The FBH also sends the amount used to the instrument cluster at the end of a burn so it can correct for that too.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

So why isn't this metered fuel accurate?
Surely the same amount of fuel is introduced to the cylinder per injection, and the engine management system should know how many revolutions the engine has turned, so in theory the fuel used should be highly accurate!
How is distance travelled measured by the car?

I'm sure it is capable of being accurate it just that LR choose it to be comforting by tweaking the software to over-read.
