CD Problem

Hi guys, Have the first little niggle with my 2006 V8 D3, ( mine for the last 9 months ) :- The CD states "Invalid Disc" for all 6 discs and will not correct this time when re-inserting. I have had single discs giving me this in the past when auto-changing to next disc but this is now serious as I can't get anything to play. Is there a system of buttons to press to correct the situation or do I try a "Hard Reset" ?
Regards to all'

Sounds like the laser lens may be dirty or the laser is gone. Have you tried inserting a cleaning disk?

Thks Baben, will try that first. The only problem with that as far as I can see is the fact that occasionally, it had given me "Invalid Disc" when changing over from one disc to another and was solved by simply removing the offending disc and reinserting - if the laser had gone even "partially" wouldn't this have affected the playback at least a little? Play back has always been perfect right up to the last time it played.
I will try cleaner disc tho'
Thanks again,
Bob

I have got the same problem today.

I just left the petrol station and cd was playing fine then it stopped and came up with invalid disc on the LCD. So I tried a different disc and they all do the same.

I bought a cd lens cleaning disc, you can hear it spinning in the drive but I get the same error. So I removed it and dismantled the whole radio so i could get a look inside. Tried wiping the lazer lens with a cotton bud put it all back together and its still not working. Looks like a new radio required or a repair.

Does anyone one have any advice on where to go from here? The vehicle is out of warranty, I do have an AA warranty on it but I doubt that will cover the entertainment system. I use the bluetooth module I got of Wiggs so I dont think anything other than a genuine one will work with that or the passenger seat controls (its an 05 HSE).

Thaks for any help you can give.

Snap ! Bought cleaning disc and fed it in - "invalid disc ". Is it possible to buy the CD section alone ? - I'm assuming that it is then possible to swap the old unit for new. Or do I have to buy complete radio / CD unit ?
Do LR in UK fix these units ?
Still need my Willie Nelson fix so this is now urgent guys !! Bow down

Don't know about fixing but an iPod lead is certainly cheaper than a new unit.
And it holds more songs too.

Hi Bob,

I don't have the skills to throw you into the 21st century in one post Laughing
Basically what you do:
- rip your cd's onto your pc harddisk
- buy an iPod
- download iTunes (free)
- connect the iPod to the pc and sync the iPod from iTunes
- buy an iPod lead for the disco, it can connect into the aux connector on the back of the centre cubby box
- connect the iPod, switch on and start listening.

If you wish, you can also buy music from the iTunes store and put that onto your player but you don't need to.

See what an iPod is at Apple dot com
There are several models for different needs.

Hope this helps in any way.

regards,

Wiljo

I dismantled my unit and had a look inside.
As expected I hadnt got a clue what I was looking for and put it back together.

I bought a second hand one. There is a company that advertises on Fleabay that will repair them, but its a long turnround time and very expensive.

With regard to plugging an Iphone / Ipod in, I do this sometimes to listen to podcasts but I find the volume too low sometimes. It could do with a preamp in the lead to boost the signal from the ipod.

Cheers

You might find you would get more volume if you can get an adapter that plugs into the bottom of the iPod rather than the headphone socket. But I have never tried it. I'm sure someone here will know more.

CD PROBLEM

THINK IT IS SOLVED !! Thumbs Up I am buying a small "thingy" that plugs into any cig socket, into which one plugs a flash drive which has the desired tunes downloaded onto it ( Willie Nelson ! ). This "thingy" transmits a signal which the radio picks up and HEY PRESTO - the full sound system is alive and well. I am told the "thingy" is +/- R100 so, with a few memory sticks/flash drives, I will have all the music I need - let you know if all is ticky-boo when I've tried it Whistle

Just bought one of these (FM transmitter) from Fleabay, cost £1,65 + £1.00 delivery from Hong Kong, arrived 1 week later and its quite good. Simply plug your MP3 player, Iphone etc into the the unit and it transmits your songs over your car radio. Sound quality is good (stereo). Thumbs Up
