Cracked intake manifold
Nightmare-- I have read this thread and wonder what the success rate of people getting this paid by LRCS..?
Just took mine to be serviced by local garage- they have confirmed diagnosis by smoke test. I have called LRCS who say I have to take it to a franchised dealer for diagnosis and get them to report. My car is a 2011 with 80k miles- any experience about how likely they are to contribute?
I have called 3 dealers in a radius of 40 miles of Cardiff- all give different answers?
Obviously if LR will cough up that is better for me - so far quoted £700 plus VAT
Looking like my N/S inlet manifold is now cracked, but at least this one has made it to 111k miles. Had the O/S done in October 2015 at 90k miles.
Took some pics, which kind of confirms it, but going in to my local indy next week:
While I had the engine cover off, I also cleaned this dirty little chap:

Just had a very similar looking event on the passenger side on my 2010 D4, my local D4 garage (indie) has quoted around £500 subject to anything else appearing! on a positive note he did say that he wouldn't charge for diagnostics as it is pretty obvious when you lift the engine cover!
How many miles has it done and is the N/S the first to go or has the O/S popped before?Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! Member of Gloucestershire & Worcestershire 4x4 Response.

Resurrecting a thread, because my D4 has been poorly this week and my indy has found the cause to be a cracked inlet manifold. Off to have a chat with him about the cost now.
Has anyone ever managed to persuade LR to cough up towards the cost when car is out of warranty?
I seem to remember there being some winners and some losers depending on the dealer. Plenty on here about it though.
Good luck.

Depends on the dealers service manager, they WONT pay for an Indy to do it, only if they do it. They would look to start by charging you for the diagnostics, which in my case was a WOFT as you could see it, they would then use that to put a report into LR and the statement to me was that you would be lucky to get money out of this and given their hourly rate is ~140/150 even with 50% off it is probably more expensive than going to an Indy. I have had both done, separate times mind, both came out between £5-600 at an Indy, so not ridiculous , what am I saying........?????? and they didn't have to take the body off etc. Last one popped the top whilst driving, made it sound like something major had broken, still drove but sounded like a tractor, all sorts of warnings came up plus limp mode...... and was obvious when you lifted the plastic cover off. Also screwed the DPF as running badly, so that had to be cured as well.
So good luck, have a go, but be prepared to argue and don't agree to them getting hold of it without guarantee of a substantial subsidy from LR.

Indy has quoted £650+vat to do it, and it's the RHS that's gone. It's booked in for next Thursday.
What mileage have you covered, Sheepy?Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! Member of Gloucestershire & Worcestershire 4x4 Response.

92k
He told me that the RHS seems to last about 90k and the LHS about 120k! Although he's only doing the RHS this time, am planning to get the LHS done over the summer as a preventative job.
There or thereabouts I guess. Mine was 90k and 111k. How much would you save (in both pounds and hassle) having both done now?Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! If your going to have 1 done, you’d be as well doing the other at the same time.
And as the cambelt cover has to come off, the belts should really be done too

Garage quoted me £300 quid less to do both at same time (compared to cost of doing them at different times). So now the booking is to have both done next week!
Thanks for the suggestion alfamale, it didn't occur to me!!
